Many Liverpool fans have insisted that they would not be bothered if the Premier League season was forced to finish prematurely and any title triumph for the Reds came with an asterisk.

Anfield Edition on Twitter (@AnfieldEdition) asked followers if they would be perturbed by a 2020 Liverpool title victory being accompanied by an asterisk in the record books if the season cannot be completed, with numerous Reds fans delivering a firm response in the negative.

Prior to the season being stopped seven weeks ago due to the coronavirus pandemic, Jurgen Klopp’s team had opened a 25-point lead at the top of the table and needed only two wins from their remaining nine fixtures to confirm Liverpool’s first league title in 30 years.

The Premier League is still hopeful of resuming next month if it is deemed safe to do so, although the French Ligue 1 was ended this week with PSG, 12 points clear at the summit, declared as champions with 27 matches played, 11 short of a complete season and two fewer than Liverpool had played in their league campaign.

These Liverpool fans on Twitter shrugged off the ‘stigma’ of an asterisked title, insisting that the Reds had comprehensively earned it due to the staggering lead they had built up between them and the rest of the league:
