Liverpool will reportedly face competition for the signature of Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma, according to the Daily Mirror

Former Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is said to want the Mail international at Leicester City, whilst Arsenal are also credited with an admiration.

Bissouma had been touted as an ideal Gini Wijnaldum replacement previously, something that could have become a necessity as the Dutchman’s switch to Barcelona reportedly edges closer.

Now Jurgen Klopp could face extra competition to sign the 24-year-old this summer as he looks to bolster his midfield options.

Capped 14 times by Mali, Bissouma has enjoyed a strong campaign in what has been a difficult season for the Seagulls at times.

Making 27 Premier League appearances, the energetic midfielder has made 1.6 interceptions per game and achieved an average rating of 7.0 (Sofascore).

By comparison, Liverpool’s 30-year-old Dutch ace has made just 0.7 interceptions per game and has earned an average rating of 6.80 (Sofascore).

Bissouma’s Brighton teammate Dale Stephens previously described the Mali man as having ‘bundles of ability’ and the best young talent he’s played with back in 2019.

L4L’s VIEW

As the likelihood of needing a Wijnaldum replacement this summer increases, Klopp and co will no doubt be casting an eye over the like of the Brighton ace.

Whilst it looks as though Bissouma will be saved from the dignity of relegation, meaning there’ll likely be no cut-price deal on the table.

Valued at £15.3m (Transfermarkt), the box to box midfielder isn’t out of Liverpool. price range, albeit a midfielder mightn’t be top of the list of priorities.

Perhaps a deal that would see one of the Reds’ fringe players head in the opposite direction could see be a possibility, similar to the Diogo Jota switch from Wolves as Ki-Jana Hoever headed to the Midlands.
