Liverpool are reportedly locked in negotiations with Southampton over a potential deal for Romeo Lavia, who looks set to depart the Championship club before the conclusion of the summer transfer window.
The Reds are in need of additional options in the centre of their midfield, especially with the likes of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho looking as though they’re heading for the exit door at Anfield this summer. Both of those players are reportedly edging closer to moves to Saudi Arabia, as they look to be the latest players to join the likes of N’Golo Kanté and Karim Benzema, who have already made the step away from European football.
Liverpool have already added the likes of Alexis Mac Allister to their squad this summer, which made up for the timely departures of Naby Keïta and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who left upon the expiration of their contracts with the club. However, with Thiago also being linked with a move away from Anfield this summer, reinforcements in the centre of the Liverpool midfield are certainly needed, and fast.
The Reds’ season is set to get underway on Sunday 13th August 2023, when they take on Chelsea, in what is likely to be an entertaining clash between both teams at Stamford Bridge. Liverpool will be looking to make a fast start to this year’s Premier League campaign, having finished fifth in the 2022/23 season, which was a frustrating one for Jurgen Klopp and the Anfield faithful.

Liverpool will be hoping that they can get a deal for Lavia over the line at the earliest of opportunities, as he’s a player that has shown he can catch the eye for the right reasons, having been a rare bright spark in a disappointing season for Southampton last term, as they were relegated from the Premier League.
The former Manchester City youngster has already been capped by the Belgian senior side at the age of 19, and he’ll still have his best years ahead of him. A move to Liverpool is obviously going to be too good of an opportunity to turn down, and with the Reds needing strength in depth in their midfield options, then it’s a move that would make sense for all parties involved. Lavia made 34 first-team appearances for Southampton last season, in what was his breakthrough year with the Saints, and it appears as though his stay with the Championship side could be a relatively short one.
