Rumour Mill: Crouch in shock Reds return link

|

Sam Wallace in the Independent believes that Tottenham striker Peter Crouch could be set for a shock return to Liverpool. New manager Roy Hodgson has been looking at potential strikers to improve Liverpool’s squad and it has been suggested that Crouch could be interesting Roy as a possible signing. The paper states that Hodgson attempted to buy Crouch for Fulham last summer and is a keen admirer of the 29 year old England international. Crouch scored 13 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions last season after being bought from Portsmouth for £10million.

Premier League glory guaranteed then? If Crouch returns we’re sunk!

  • Jay says:

no need for looking backwards – we shouldn’t have sold him in the first place, but now there is no point in buying him back at his age.
We need a striker with size, but also with a bit of pace and power; Carlton Cole or Kenwyne Jones would be decent signings imo

  • Phil says:

We should never had sold him and a perfect partner for Torres. The only question worth knowing is….how much? At 29 I would’nt want us to spend more than 9-10mil.

  • lfc4life says:

yes please, sign him now 8 mill would do it

  • Harry says:

God help us if Carlton Cole or Kenwyne Jones are ever the answer. Neither has scored more than 10 league goals in a Premier League season and neither ever looks capable of doing it either.

I would bet my shirt (nay, my entire wardrobe) that Krisztián Németh could match them if given a similar number of starts, so why would you want the club to spend £10-12 million or more on an average 25- or 26-year old Englishman when we already have a very useful-looking 21-year old waiting in the wings?

  • brian says:

Don’t worry Brush, Crouch is at a well run club looking forward to Champions League football. Why would he want to move to a club on the slide?

  • Blindside says:

If he could be obtained for £5m/6m then okay. Otherwise leave well alone.

  • steve mcauley says:

if we are looking at english strikers, personally i would go for darren bent, ok he’s missed a few sitters but he’s always scored a lot of goals and with a good team around him i think he could do very well, no disrespect to his current or former clubs.

  • brian says:

@steve, my initial reaction was to scoff, but then I remembered Judas scored a lot of goals for us and he’s a crap footballer too. Still, Bent is a top 8 club player, Crouch is a top 4 club player.

  • steve mcauley says:

brian, if you look at his goals per games ratio at all his clubs, it’s pretty darn good! the only reason he isn’t a top 4 player is because a top 4 team hasn’t taken a chance on him! oh, and in case you haven’t noticed mate, we are only a top 7 team at present!

HODGSON interested in players like CROUCH MURPHY TREZEGUET HYYPIA why not OWEN BARNES.RAFA valued MASCHERANO £50m .TORRES still under contract if they want to move they have to buy the contract MR HODGSON this is LIVERPOOL
We have INSUA very good player why selling for cheap the same for BENAYOUN .I already regret MR BENITEZ

  • dee says:

I hope dis is not TRUE…

  • brian says:

steve, the way we’re going I’m emailing Roy a video of me doing some keepy-ups in the back garden.

  • steve mcauley says:

nice one brian! so who would you like to bring in mate?

  • brian says:

Depends who leaves. If Mascherano goes obviously we need someone who can stop us being bullied as we were before Sissoko and then Masch gave us some steel. If Gilberto is available he could do a job a a reasonable fee I would have thought.

If Torres goes obviously we need a striker I would go for Crouch plus a punt on an up and coming youngster. We’ve got Jovanovic too.

To replace Benayoun who turned many a game for us the most obvious replacement is Joe Cole.

But overall at the moment we’re just waiting for people like Gerrard and Torres to commit to the club. If the list of leavers starts looking like Benayoun, Gerrard, Torres, Mascherano and even Kuyt and Johnson we are really up a brown creek. We might end up trying to get in to Europe via the Inter Toto, if we’re not too busy fighting relegation.

  • Nick says:

Dont worry folks. this rubbish for sure. roy would not move for anyone who would be useless as a lone striker he knows the signings have to impress torres and gerrard. Crouch is not the answer. Bobby Zamora or Carlton Cole. Gervinio and Mezut Ozil are the players we need and the rumoured Ruiz are more of what we need. Big pete always seems a good idea till you get him

  • steve mcauley says:

@nick, so you think bobby zamora should be in a list of players to impress SG and FT? catch a grip man!

  • Homer says:

Rafa got stick for selling him and Robbie Keane…but how much playing time did Crough get at Spurs and Robbie Keane was shipped out to Celtic! Try and remember how many times we graned at the TV when Crouch missed a sitter! Everyone loves Crouch but he’s not the answer! Still don’t understand why we don’t give Babel a run out up front…it would make him happier and he might even start to look like the player we bought!

  • paul bishop says:

just play kuyt up front he wud b like an ian rush of old where he wud close down defenders from the front he wud do the donkey work while torres grabs all the glory

  • steve mcauley says:

paul bishop will you have a word with yourself! 22 goals in 3 yrs, how the hell can you compare crouch with the legend that is ian rush? do me a favour!
