Corvino: Reds Defender “wanted €1.2m per season”

|

Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo Corvino has confirmed why Liverpool’s Emiliano Insua failed to complete his £5m move to the Italian club:

“We were interested in a number of players, but made our decisions for a good reason. Emiliano Insua wanted €1.2m per season, which isn’t worth it for someone born in 1989.”

Insua eventually moved to Turkish club Galatasaray on a season long loan deal, in view to a permanent move, on the last day of the transfer window.

I think he’s a good quality player. He started making mistakes last season because he was knackered and the person in front & to the right of him kept changing from game to game.
Why we have allowed a quality young LB to leave and signed 2 old players, 1 injury prone and the other just an average LB is beyond me.
Also since he is in the last year of his contract how can he be only on loan? Surely he will be a free agent soon?

  • Mike76 says:

I think he started well but did make some positional errors last season. But thank heavens we have now signed a very average 30 year old to take his place. One that over the last 5/6 years has been a weak link in both Fulham and West Ham teams.

Oh how we have fallen from attracting top players.

isn’t that only £20-21k a week that is nothing in terms of wages. for a youngster with 2 years first team football at the highest level. would have been a steel

Insua was terrible!! Great going forward, terrible on defense. If you go back and watch footage of last season, everytime the opposition would breakout, they would do so down the left side. The amount of goals he let in from not defending his side were ridiculous. Agger is not much better playing there. He has too much ego, and dithers round on the ball being cheeky, instead of doing the safe thing like Carragher or Skrtel. Aurelio is not much better, but at least he follows up if he loses the ball. Good riddance Insua, another terrible Benitez favorite. Like Lucas.

He wasnt worth £23 a week , worst player along with lucas last season , left us open on the left side contantly , very pleased he has gone.

IM gutted ………..only for the fact that more crap could of followed him out the anfield gates lucas has been terrible johnson cant defend kuyt and babel cant hold the ball ngog HAS been lucky with his goals ,for all the players brought in to be honest i dont think they are any better than what we got rid of,we should have kept what we had cos at least they had played together and now we have to wait for the newbys to gel.masch ,riera and bennayoun was going anyway so we should have used that cash for one good striker and kept the rest, not looking forward to this season in terms of a good finish in the prem but heyho i can always dream ,my dream will start early october when RBS call time at the bar for the yanks,
    YNWA

I know what you mean with Agger dithering on the ball, but hes playing out of position and full backs are meant to go forward with the ball hes not playing centre back where u can just hoof the ball anywhere. If he was playing centre back where he should be i would ask him to do that like Alan hansen was good at being calm bringing the ball out linking the defence to midf. You need 1 guy whose no nonsense who will just boot it away and another who calmly brings the ball out, it complements the defence. Just like Hyypia and Henchoz Hyypia was the calm 1 and Henchoz the hoofer. Back to insua think your all bang right i wasn’t a fan of his but hes surely got more potential than Konchesky, Fulham got the better deal 3-4 million and Salceido whose way better than Konchesky only a year older, more experience and much bloody cheaper and a leathal left peg reminds me of Riises left boot……YNWA

  • Steve says:

I was amazed Fiorentina actually wanted him, considering how they skinned him in the two champions league games last season. Must have seen something in him. Good attacker & crosser of the ball but lacks pace & positional sense.

  • Paul says:

He’s 21 for crying out loud, the guy has the potential to be class if nurtured properly. Everyone keeps going on about last season, where on average 9 out of 11 players were crap each game. And as for our standard of players – you want class, you need money!!! As far as I’m concerned Liverpool FC have ridden their name, supporters and luck the past 10 or so years. Why the hell do we believe we deserve to be top of the crop, when there are teams around us spending the dosh? It pains me to say, and I may offend a few, but most of our supporters are arrogant – it is not our God given right to be at the top. That’s why I hate Manure supporters but at least they have been there the last 20 yrs and have earned that arrogance.

  • Jonski says:

bobsmith, why the criticism of Agger? Is it because he actually tries to play football, anyway slagging him for playing at left back when he is centre half is a terrible shout, could Ferdinand, Terry or even Hansen play there? No! Why?? because they are centre backs like Agger is, he does not have an ego otherwise he wouldn’t play there, or would moan if asked to do so.

  • Karim says:

one of the worst LBs ever to put on the red shirt of liverpool. Naive at the back, not particularly quick and never really showed up. scored a great goal against arsenal in the carling cup but never moved on from that.
