Reds star: “That was a massive moment for me”

|

Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing has expressed his delight about starting against Steaua Bucharest last night. He told Liverpoolfc.tv:

“That was a massive moment for me to start my first game for Liverpool at Anfield and I will take a lot from the game. I got a lot of confidence when the manager told me I would be playing and I went out there and really enjoyed it. The manager has given me a lot of confidence and I know I have to keep working hard every time I get the chance in the first team. I thought overall we have to be pleased with the performance. We started very well and got the early goal that gave us a lot of confidence. In the second half we got at them, kept our shape and scored some good goals.”

Spearing also talked about playing alongside new signing Raul Meireles:

“I enjoyed playing alongside Raul Meireles. We spoke before the game about the need to keep our shape, keep it simple and keep passing the ball.”

    You play very well .

I’m glad for the lad but the reality is he is not at the level needed.

Why did Pacheco not get a start as Maxi has been poor and this lad has it all over Spearing class wise.

though I don’t think he’s quite got enough about him to be a first teamer for us (if the club maintains does still maintain any ambition) Spearing did acquit himself quite well last night – he constantly showed an appetite to look for space and get involved upfield, instead of shirking from any real responsibility (which has long been one of my main complaints about Leiva)

i’m with david and jay here! i like the lad but i don’t think he’ll ever be a first-teamer, it all comes down to quality and i just don’t think jay as enough

merieles is a forward thinking player. I can’t understand the high esteem some players are held in when they play only one role i.e defensive midfielder – look at roy keane – box to box – essien is close to that style also. Masch was quality but one dimensional. It is a long dark tunnel at the moment but we will rise out of it – yanks out. YNWA
