Italian Press: Rafa after Reds midfielder

|

Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport is reporting that Inter Milan manager Rafa Benitez wants to sign two new midfield players in the January transfer window. According to the paper, fitness concerns over Esteban Cambiasso have meant that Inter will follow Rafa’s recommendation and attempt to sign Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva. The Italian club are said to be confident of sealing a deal after the Brazilian lost his place in the Reds first team. Inter are also said to be targeting Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger although if their approach is rebuffed, Rafa may go after another former Reds player Xabi Alonso.

it would not suprise me. alonso is a pro and said he had no hard feelings towards rafa, and if it seemed a good move, he might.

  • reds says:

Get these players and we can win the league. Reina johnson skertel agger konchesky mata stevie g schweinstiger turan torres forlan or dzeko.4-4-2. What you guys think?

  • Jay Wright says:

if Roy had any sense he would’ve let Lucas go in the summer. But then again, he would’ve just replaced the guy with another older but inferior player (Gilberto??) so we probably did make a lucky escape on that count

No more transfer decisions to be made by Hodgson!!

  • Róin olsen says:

sell lucas and ALL defenders they are not good enough, and buy some players who will play to WIN not cash, sell babbel, maxi poulsen,.and will someone please kick all the players arses and tell them to play FUCKIN FOOTBALL!!!!!

I admire Lucas’s professional attitude and work ethic. Only LFC could consider selling a 23 year old, current Brazil international. (or the captain of argentina for that matter, or the best midfielder in the world). I would love to watch Xabi play for LFC again but not at the cost of Lucas. Xabi is 29 in 6 weeks time and has always been a little slow getting around the pitch. If he gets any slower he could get exposed. Personally I think Xabi is class and his lack of pace is not as big a concern as it is made out to be. What I am saying is that I think Xabi in Lucas out, has an unnecessary risk component. Plus bring back Xabi, I miss him so much. YNWA Xabi. YNWA Lucas.

  • Róin olsen says:

liverpool will sign any player in jan.it will not happen. maybe in 5-6 years liverpool wil compete with the best again.ther is only ONE god left in liverpool,im sad to say.REINA.the rest can fuck of.they do not want to play football, crying about the owners and shit.NEWSFLASH:THE OWNERS DID NOT LOOSE 1-2 AGAINST BLACKPOOL,the players did…

  • Fitzy says:

Don’t know why everyone is having a go at Lucas, he’s not the best il agree, but he’s alot better than that Danish thing Hodgson got! Alonso looks fast compared to him, he has a worse first touch than kuyt and turns with the ball like the 69 bus. At the end of the day the owners are part to blame for cutting back on spending each year to pay towards the debt, but then u get a manager that has no credentials worth talkin bout, and he replaced a world class manager in Benitez and doesn’t have the know how, how to deal with top class players, simple as, his tactics are grim, the team is all over the place and he doesn’t know were to play players, I.e meirielles world cup centre mid playing right midfield.. Plus buys (repeating myself) poulsen and gets rid of a fully fit aquilani instead of giving him a full season, someone who can do something with the ball, what does Hodgson do? Plays 2 holding poor midfielders, similar to Benitez did except it only worked for Benitez when you have a ball passer like alonso… I could go on all day, the end of the day were in this position 18th because of the managers inability and out of his depth knowledge of coaching world class players, that doesn’t qualify managin Danish teams, Switzerland and fulham, he did briefly manage inter Milan but what happened? He got sacked! Think the same shud happen here once this takeover by Peter Lim is complete

  • Turthalion says:

Let’s agree to this, get the deal done, money in the bank, and then send Poulsen on the plane instead.

  • Jacko says:

Ha ha ha truthalion Rafa thkzz fr giving us a talented bt stil learning brazilian international bt u cnt hve him bck take poulsen instead worth nothing if u cn give us 2 mil we wld b satisfied.

  • joe king says:

I know I’m probably in the minority but I like Lucas.
He’s carried on despite tremendous criticism and as a result must find it extremely difficult to build any confidence. Even so he has never complained and has just got on with his job representing Liverpool with nothing but complete professionalism.
I think he gets stick because he plays in the Dunga, no frills, style, shielding the defence, attempting to retain possession with short safe passes, keeping the ball moving and feeding the creative players.
The problem at Liverpool at the moment is the creative players aren’t creating.
He’s only 23 and is still developing and for me is worth keeping. He’s much, much better than Poulsen for a start.

  • susu says:

Rafa to buy Lucas? Maybe we can have a buy 1, get 1 free offer. Rafa … buy Lucas, and you get Poulsen free. I am sure they will serve you well and form a lethal combination in defensive midfield.

  • Rusty says:

Lucas played well for Brazil tonight. A couple long raking diagonal balls. 2-0 win. If more reds had the professional attitude and approach that Lucas displays LFC would be better off for it.

  • Mike Arms says:

Hodgson has already made his mind up, get rid of a 23 year old midfielder with potential and replace him with a 30 year old slow player in the twilight of his career. Get rid of a 21 year old left back with potential and replace him with a 29 year old average player. Get rid of a 26 year old midfielder who was just settling in and replace him with an inferior 27 year old midfielder who will take at least 12 months to settle in and to make it harder play him out of position too.
Great logic by our 35 years worth of experience manager. Rafa must be pissing himself laughing and Kenny must be pulling his hair out knowing he was overlooked.
If any of our star players hand in transfer requests in January it will be all Hodgsons fault for illogical transfer & tactical decisions he has made so far.

  • orca16 says:

get rid of lucas, poulsen, konchesky, hicks, gillet and woy.

bring back kenny and alonso for a start then maybe benzema, swinesteiger, and another top striker to help nando, podolski sounds good.

  • marata says:

why do you hate LUCAS so much.Did anyone watch the two Brazil friendlies. Who is playing better than Lucas at liverpool right now or even last seaseon for that matter.I would prefer to see Lucas in the first team than Poulsen any other day. Lucas job is to disrupt play and he does that well. Why is it when Lucas gets a yellow card, he is poor but Masch accumulated red cards like they were on speacial and he was brilliant.
