Who is this talented Argentine we are rumoured to be tracking?

Lisandro himself, like his counterparts before him, didn’t take too long to settle. His first and second seasons saw him score seven and eleven goals in all competitions respectively, but it was his third and fourth seasons where he had his most impact at Porto. In the 2007/08 season, he scored 24 goals helping Porto to their third successive league crown while adding three more while playing for the Portuguese Club in the Champions League. In the 2008/09 campaign, he was slightly less prolific in the league but he was the fourth top goalscorer in the Champions League with six goals, including one against Arsenal in the group stages.

His performances for Porto in the Champions League attracted interest from many of Europe’s top clubs, and when Lyon sold Karim Benzema to Real Madrid, the French Club pounced for Lisandro last summer. They purchased the player for €24million and he had an excellent first season scoring 24 goals in all competitions, being named Ligue One player of the year for his performances in the process. He will be mostly remembered by Liverpool fans for scoring a decisive equaliser against the Reds in the group stages last season sealing qualification to the knockout rounds for Lyon and sealing Liverpool’s fate by knocking them out of the tournament.

At 5ft8, Lisandro is not the tallest of players but his speed gives him a great deal of threat behind opposition defences. He loves playing on the shoulder of the last defender and uses his footballing brain well to read the game. He also has good close ball control with his low centre of gravity, and with a goalscoring record of 25 goals in 54 appearances for Lyon, it demonstrates his natural finishing abilities.
