Is this French midfield destroyer a good fit for Liverpool?

|

Another young French starlet that has been linked with Liverpool in recent times is Rennes’ holding midfielder Yann M’Vila. Reds boss Roy Hodgson is said to have attended a recent Rennes league match to see M’Vila in action, no doubt under the advice of Liverpool’s French Director of Football Strategy Damien Comolli. With Christian Poulsen far from impressing in a Liverpool shirt since his arrival from Juventus in the summer, Hodgson could be on the look out for a younger, more energetic midfield destroyer, and M’Vila could fit the bill.

French born, but of Congolese descent, M’Vila grew up in the town of Amiens. His father Jean-Elvis had played for the local team Amiens SC for 13 years and Yann followed in his father’s footsteps, playing in Amiens SC’s youth team and practising at the team’s soccer school. After 5 years at the club, he was offered the opportunity to move to Rennes and to their famed youth academy in 2004. The French cub offered M’Vila a youth contract and it was an offer he gladly accepted, moving to Britanny to train in a youth system renowned for making the most of their trainees.

He was joined by former Liverpool player Anthony le Tallec’s brother, Damien, in the youth team, and the pair helped Rennes’ youngsters to Under 16 and under 18 success. The class of 1990, as they were known, were a very good crop of youngsters and in 2007, M’Vila joined Damien Le Tallec and teammate Abdoul Camara in signing professional contracts with the Ligue One club. Initially playing in the reserves, his first notable successes came playing for France’s youth teams.

What we need is a strong and energetic defensive midfielder who can also pass the ball well. Poulsen’s obviously not the one but L. Diarra could do the job and he’d fit the bill but I’m not too sure about this guy M’Vila although he’s young and highly rated…
