Reds Star: “It surprises me that we are within sight of fourth”

|

Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson has stated he is surprised that the Reds are still in sight of fourth place after their poor start to the season:

“We are still quite close to the top and, if we can keep going, then I’m sure we can be close to where we want to be. It surprises me that we are within sight of fourth place when you consider some of the points we have dropped.”

Johnson scored an impressive goal against West Ham in a 3-0 win on his return from injury at Anfield on Saturday.

It surprises us all, it is only by luck that other teams have been just as bad. In most other seasons we would be near or in the relegation zone.
The irony is that if Rafa was allowed at least one more season then we would quite possibly be top of the league now.
I can only draw comparisons with Man United when Fergie was about to be sacked after 6 years and a poor season, they kept him on and the rest we know.

We wouldn’t have won anything if we kept Benitez on, look at his performances with Internazionale in Seria A, with a much better squad and much poorer league than he had at liverpool. I’m not saying Hodgson is the answer by an means, but with the new owners and Comolli running transfers we are in with a chance. Maybe bring in someone like Leonardo, or Pellegrini?

  • Jabe Me Alonso says:

That’s it we are gonna win the league now!!!!

  • Eric says:

We don’t want to be “close” to where we want to be, we are Liverpool FC and we want to be exactly where we want to be and that I mean the top four.

  • vinod says:

rafa is goona get sacked from inter.stop moaning ..stop moanong about him..hes the reason why we have the worst squad in epl league,,,dnt forget that

    • Eric says:

oh and the worst squad in the epl has 16 internationals and among them two world cup winners and two champions league winners…

    • Bheko says:

      the worst squad??? really mate???
come on now, Rafa might have had a bad last season but i think thats going overboard a little and lets not forget the season before last we finished 2nd with pretty much the same squad, barring Alonso and Arbeloa (but we had Johnson to cover that), as last season where we finished 7th. LFC was in a mess and now the revival begins under new ownership and management lets just hope we can improve a bit quicker than at the moment. YNWA!

  • Colie says:

Vinod….you’re an idiot…he has taken over yet again an aging squad…who have peaked….there is a seriously big rebuilding job at Inter to be done….the majority of their players are all over 30….go educate yourself before shouting your mouth off.

  • woy says:

shut up colie – jose left a great squad behind. these are facts. youo have rose tinted glasses as usual.

    • Bheko says:

what great squad, who’s on the Inter bench besides Pandev that you can say is world class-ish? Inter has a good 1st 11 thats about it and its not even that good but Mourinho performs miracles wherever he goes thats why they won all those things. Simples!

  • swag says:

Rafa would have won the league for Liverpool at some point. Woy never will FACT!

  • max says:

Give Hodgson a break, all this moaning is not doing anything to help the players or the club. we have had one of the worst 12 months on our history and we should be thankfull we have new owners..

NESV have a hard job on their hands.
