McMahon: “He has a bright future at the club”

|

Liverpool Reserve team manager John McMahon believes that Spanish starlet Suso has a bright future ahead him. Speaking to Liverpoolfc.tv, he said:

“He turned 17 on Friday and hopefully he has a bright future at the club. He’ll only have that future if he keeps working hard and listens to what the coaching staff are saying to him. But he knows that and we hope he will start working twice as hard now. We are looking at developing the whole player here. He has good attributes going forward and in the wide areas but he still needs to learn the other side of the game. He needs to know about the discipline and work that’s required in a team, like tracking back, tackling and staying with runners. By playing him in midfield, like we did with Pacheco last year, it will hopefully add that other side to his game.”

Suso signed a three year contract with Liverpool yesterday.

    No doubt he’s a bright prospect but he’ll only have a future here if Hodgson gets out. Nemeth, Plessis and Dalla Valle, all promising youngsters and all sold by the muppet manager. Mavinga and Pacheco will follow them out soon…so will Spearing…oh I forgot, Spearing’s English and the others aren’t, that explains it! Promising foreign youngsters all overlooked and average English guys all get a chance in the first team! Great!

      I’m starting to think that too. When the first team is struggling, thats the time to give regulars in the reserves like Pacheco a chance, otherwise, whats the point in having an academy at all?

    Eric, Dont forget Insua also!
    In Roy we do not Trust

  • David Shamash says:

    I cant believe what I am reading! Lets start with Insua ( the worst left back in premiership history) the guy cant get in Galatasary’s subs bench let a lone Liverpools’s first team I would rather have Konchesky and that is saying something. Plessis was given many opportunity’s under Rafa he did not cut the standard and he is now 22 doesn’t look like he is going to improve much more dead wood if u ask me. Pachecco has a disciplinary problem and thats why he doesn’t get in the team. As for the rest of them mentioned, none of them have made it at the clubs we sold them to and also none of them have impressed the Liverpool coaching staff under rafa or Roy (thats two different regimes) to play for the first team. You guys are too quick to blame Roy for everything you are ruining our club please be more positive

      Thank you David at last someone with sense. I’ve been saying this all along, if the youngster gets to the age of 20-21yrs and is still not showing any signs of improving then flog him and concentrate on the ones that look like they have a future e.g. Shelvey and Kelly who are getting their chances but no one is mentioning them when they moan about “Roy’s not giving our kids chances”. The same was said about Rafa when he was here and as soon as he got to Inter he put an 18 and 21yr old in his squad as starters which can only mean our boys must have not shown that bit extra that’s needed to be a 1st team player, so all you moaners need to shut up and be positive coz Roy IS playing youngsters in – Ngog, Shelvey, Kelly, Spearing and Ecclestone in his usual 18 men squad, sometimes even Danny Wilson and if we had more youngsters we would be the fans crying about too many youngsters in the team thats why we are losing, NO WIN SITUATION THEN!!! YNWA Roy!

        @Bheko

        You’re right to some extent, but he does seem to favour the British kids a little too much. Look I love the fact that those boys are getting a chance, but Pacheco is a special talent and I don’t see the harm in putting him the squad as a sign that he has a future. He’s not playing Jova, so why not put Dani in there. Shelvey has done OK, and should get his chance again, but he hasn’t pulled up any trees (Wigan game) so why not share the load and give others a chance as well. The thing about the foreign lads is that if they get no encouragement they will look to go back to their countries, so they need to be managed differently. I just don’t want a Piquet situation. And if you want to use youngsters then use them properly. Not having a go, but 3-0 up against West Ham, bring on Nathan and Shelvey earlier. That game was ripe for Dani. It just gets on my nerves that they keep talking about him, but he never seems to appear. I’m just scared of losing Pacheco if he doesn’t get a taste of the first team. He has to be in the squad on Thurs, or he might as well go to Athletico or Villareal and become a star there.

        Ngog, Shelvey, Kelly, Spearing AND Ecclestone in our usual 18 man squad?? Really??

        Anyway, they may get into the squad, but that is not how players improve – they need time on the pitch! Ngog was a regular starter already last season and has had a few chances to play. Kelly has started as a last resort when a bunch of defenders ahead of him were injured. Then the rest haven’t started any games barring meaningless Carling Cup/Europa Cup games where Hodgson feels under no pressure to deliver, with Shelvey, Ecclestone et al being thrown on for 5 minutes in random positions as if that is going to help them or our club.

        btw, Plessis had many chances?! Where’d you guys get that idea from??

    • Eric says:

      I’m just saying that Roy seems to favour British youngsters. Players like Kelly, Spearing, Eccleston and Shelvey are all British and have all been given run outs in the first team while better players who are foreign like Pacheco and Mavinga have all been overlooked. I just don’t like the fact that Roy has something against non-British youngsters.
