Gillespie: Hat-trick hero Maxi “is a bit negative”

|

Former Liverpool player Gary Gillespie believes hat-trick hero Maxi Rodriguez should use his talent a lot more. He told talkSPORT:

“He’s a talented individual but sometimes he’s a bit negative and doesn’t use his ability to hurt teams.”

Gillespie feels he doesn’t have the quality of a player like Luis Suarez:

“He’s one of the players who’s established in the squad, but if you’re going to challenge right at the top you need a bit more quality, the likes of Luis Suarez.”

This week it is LFC fan and tennis player Caroline Wozniacki!

Nice one Gary. The guy gets a hat trick and you put the boot in! Try and be a bit more positive. I watched you play, and you were no Hansen or Lawrenson.

It is true. Maxi has never been that great for us.

    Gary Gillespie views are negative!

I agree wholeheartedly with Gary. One hatrick does not compensate for countless games where Maxi was nowhere to be seen.
Congratulations where they are due for the hatrick. That was great for Maxi and great for the team but too often Maxi is an invisible man on the pitch, very few times can Maxi be seen “running down the wing for me!”.

I agree with Gary but Maxi still deserves praise for his hattrick against Birmingham. Maxi is good in possession and is a very good passer of the ball but too often he either passes the ball sideways or backwards. I’m not expecting him to run down the wing and cross the ball as I know he’s not that sort of player but the guy does not offer much to the team. As a winger, he lacks pace, guile and penetration and has nothing to make up for that and I just feel that his best days are behind him. He can be a reliable squad player but if Livepool are going to challenge at the top then you’re going to need more exciting players than Maxi.

Agree that Maxi is not up to the standard that we need to challenge for the prem. He never has been!

The same applies to Dirk Kuyt, who works hard but has limited ability.
