LIVERPOOL have had their FA Cup semi-final date set for Saturday the 14th April therefore avoiding the anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, when 96 fellow fans tragically lost their lives on the 15th April 1989. On that horrendous day Liverpool were taking on Nottingham Forest, also in the semi-final of the FA Cup.

Kenny Dalglish, who was also the manager back then, had already stated on Monday that the club would not play on the anniversary of the disaster:

“I don’t think it’s even worth a line in a paper that we might play on the 15th because we won’t. We’ve never played on the 15th before, have we? So there you are. Why would they change now?”

The Football Association today confirmed that decision, ensuring that the Reds will not have to play on what will be the 23rd anniversary of the disaster.

Liverpool will either play Sunderland in the semi-final, or city rivals Everton, who were the eventual opponents in the 1989 final.

Jimmy Areabi (Editor) - @fantasista1077: Huyton raised like Steven Gerrard, football has been my passion since the time I received a Kenny Dalglish badge as a toddler, and I've followed the Reds ever since – something that was easier during the 80s, when I worshipped John Barnes! I've produced work for many football media outlets & am now happy to run a major site on the club I love - providing our fans with a voice, and to bring as much information and news on the club as possible.
Having played football all my life, I aim to continue longer than Stanley Matthews...
