Liverpool must play hardball with Real Madrid

Image for Liverpool must play hardball with Real Madrid

LFC Madrid Bernabeu31st of January 2011 one player by the name of Fernando Torres departs from Liverpool FC and joins Chelsea for a fee of £50million and Andy Carroll joins the Merseyside club from Newcastle United for a fee of £35million.

Carroll had only played 19 Premier League games and scored 11 goals in those games before he moved to Anfield and was seen as the perfect strike partner to Luis Suarez. The media went to the extent of comparing their partnership to that of John Aldridge and Peter Beardsley.

In all honesty the Geordie Giant was never was a £35million player and has never shown any promise of returning to the form that made Kenny Dalglish pay such a huge fee for a young English striker. Some might argue that Andy was never given time at Liverpool to showcase his abilities but, he is not what the club wanted.

The transfer fee paid for his services did not help him avoid scrutiny and his performances were constantly put under the microscope by the media and the fans. If media reports are to be believed the club has put Carroll’s value at £15million which represents a loss of £20million.

At the end of it all Liverpool has not benefited in any way from the sale of Torres

Liverpool made a big mistake by trying to replace a world class forward with an unproven young player and his transfer fee was largely set-off by the sum Liverpool received from the Torres transfer. The club once again finds itself in an almost similar position to the 2011 situation, whereby all signs are pointing towards the prospect of its main striker leaving the club.

Spanish giants Real Madrid are in pole position to secure the services of Luis Suarez, who has hinted at a potential exit. This time Brendan Rodgers, unlike his predecessor Kenny Dalglish (who had to find a replacement in a matter of hours), has the time to make sure that Liverpool does not repeat the same mistakes of 2011.

Luis Suarez is valued at around £40million which is less than what Fernando Torres was sold for. There are a number of reasons as to why Liverpool have to play hardball and get the best possible deal if Suarez is to leave.
[ad_pod id=”unruly-video” align=”center”]
Real Madrid, the club Suarez says is hard to turn away if they come knocking, is known for paying huge transfer fees in order to get superstars. Gonzalo Higuain has said that he is leaving the Galacticos this summer, leaving Real with only one proven centre forward Karim Benzema. Barcelona beat Madrid to the signature of Neymar and Perez will want to retaliate and make a statement by signing one or two elite players. This gives Ian Ayre more ammunition when the time to negotiate Suarez’s exit comes (that’s if he is to leave)

Liverpool have two options, either they increase Suarez’s valuation or go for a player plus cash deal. Real Madrid has some players that Liverpool may need for one reason or the other. Liverpool is in need of reinforcements in defence; Raul Albiol is an experienced centre-back who has spent most of his time at Real on the bench. Angel di Maria is another player that may be welcome at the Kop should a player plus cash deal come into play; he brings pace, trickery and chips in with a few goals from time to time.

Ever since Xabi Alonso left Anfield no one has been able to fill his position and his return will be much appreciated by the Anfield faithful at the age of 31 he is still going strong and is one of the best in his position. These are proven players, any player plus cash deal gives Liverpool security as they will get a proven player and regardless of how they spend the money they get from the sale they would have benefited in some way.

Suarez is coming off a great season and is in better form than Torres was in when he was sold to Chelsea. Take away the baggage El Pistelero comes with and factor in the huge fees being paid by clubs in Europe his true value must around the £50million mark, pushing up his value will enable Rodgers to have enough funds to bid for high quality forwards.

Therefore Liverpool must stand their ground and not be held by Madrid at ransom

The ball is in Liverpool’s court and the club must make the best out of an unpleasant situation and at the same time make sure that they find a proper replacement and not make rush decisions.

    Luis Suarez is valued at around £40 million by whom? Certainly not by the fans or the club. If Real Madrid are reported to be lining up an £80 million bid for Gareth Bale, any negotiation for Suarez must start at a minimum of £60 million. He is a far more complete player than Fernando Torres was when we sold him for £50 million and at 26 years old he still has a good few years ahead of him.

      Torres was a beast and was popular so he wasn’t just for the football ,and Torres was 25 years-old ,When Suarez will be called best striker in the world like Torres was then we’ll talk

    If someone bids between £40M and £50M we should take it and wish him well. Suarez needs to be playing at the top level and we won’t get there for a few years yet. Apparently Mario Gomez at Bayern Munich might be available for around £7M which is a steal for someone that good. I would love to see Liverpool get in there and buy him, as he’s a decent finisher and would do very well playing alongsode Sturridge and being served by Gerrard and Coutinho from the midfield and wide areas. With anything between £33M – £43M left in profit to spend plus the £20M that the owners would put in from the club, Brendan Rogers will then have ample amounts of money to go shopping for some decent quality. There could be more income if Reina goes along with Skrtel, Coates and Shelvey. Would love to see Begovitch or Mignolet at Liverpool as Pepe really wants to go home to Barca if truth be told.

    a happy suarez is worth 60, but an unhappy layer who wants out regardless of his talent is worth half of that. Liverpool have to sell now. 35 plus a player will be great. Or else, hold onto suarez, he’ll do something else stupid to get him banned again. And it will disrupt the team. He carried liverpool in the first half of the season while we played badly and had a thin squad.after the january signings the team played better without him…. The squad does not need this kind of disruption. It needs sustained consistency. Not worrying if the hothead will get himself banned and have to change systems to play without him in the squad….

    On my side,I think the reasonable price of Suarez £50mill-60mill.So,for any one who will be ready to make the deal we cn discuss n otherwise.

  • juan says:

    Suares= callejon+higuain+moratta+ £15, thats according to me,

  • red says:

    Suarez = 20m + alonso + a striker ???

  • NEMEYIMANA KAPELA says:

    Liverpool must fixe real price of swarez which are not under 60milion because madrid are read to paid €80 for bale. and lvpool can search qualities strike who are able to do the same with swarez and do possible to return alonso on enfield.

  • Saus monster says:

    Not a penny less than 50 mill. And we need to get the deal done quickly and quietly so we don’t get held to ransom.

    I would buy erikson,llori, aspas, papadopolis,mkhityan,vorm and luis muriel with the cash.

    Sturridge will lead the line next season, with aspas and coutinho.

    Erikson, gerrard , lucas and mkhityan

    Enrique, agger , papadopolis and johnson

    Reina in goal

    Borini, ibe, muriel,llori, stirlling, suso and vorm used as subs

  • dawit says:

    Suarez = Higuaine + 35m ????

  • manu4life says:

    How about me giving my middle finger to wherever the f*** he wants to go?? He’s an absolute disgrace to football he should be locked up in chains for gritting his teeth at ivanovic.. real would go for him only if their main target (bale) is unavailable…end of story

  • Steven B. says:

    Pls let him go for just 50million plus our man Xabi Alonso.

  • Garry says:

    Im a hammer and I think Liverpool are a great club and I think 15 mil for Carroll is good buissness . I think you should get 50 pluses then you will the best of Rodgers who is a quality manager .if we could get Jonjo shelvy for around 5 million Rodgers would have a fair amount to bring who he likes and konea is a good start

  • daniel says:

    di maria + alonso + £30m = suarez

  • Ejykcares says:

    U r an * manu4life, if it were Eric cantona u will defend the kungfu panda.
    Asside suarez’s attitude, he is d best.

  • Erin says:

    The key to success is conducting business quickly. Look at aspas , our offer was accepted and spurs lost out… Too little too late. Not saying he will be a super player or anything. But it goes to show the longer we pussyfoot the more expensive the buys will become to replace Suarez. I say set a deadline and price. Start at 50 million. If the deadline passes add another 10 plus. Play hardball.
    How much is Suarez worth? At least as much as Neymar who represents a huge risk as the level of football played in la liga and PL, is like day and night. You pay the same for Suarez and there is no risk of him becoming a flop. Real knows this from experience of tearing our team apart, alonso , arbeloa were value for money and so is Suarez.
    Get the max we can as soon as we can and give the scouts time to invest well in replacements. Like I said previously , we are talking 23 goals plus 10 assists. 3 players can achieve that.

  • Moses Tight says:

    Pls don’t let suarez go if we have qualify 4 european football this summer. After all we have done 4 him,he owe use qualification in european football b4 he goes.

  • Bill says:

    Suarez = £15m+DiMaria+Higuain or £25m+Verane+Alonso.

  • scouse ed says:

    His disciplinary problems mean we probably won’t get more than 35 – 40 m . And no decent Real player will agree to come here

  • manuel says:

    Br must be wise in selling suarez,dis guy must nt just go like dat.callenjon+d maria+alonso+30million=suarez

  • Fitzy says:

    Hardball is the only way forward, think Real Madrid take the * in getting liverpools best players on the cheap, prime example Michael Owen for £9m when he was worth 5 times that amount at the time.
    Think with Suarez I think the starting price is minimum £50m and that’s just to talk to lfc. If Gareth bale is valued at £80m then Suarez is worth more, I don’t understand how bale seems to be valued more, the way I see it, his disciplinary problems (which will improve) which cause him to miss games are the reason for his low value, but his games missing are the same if not less than how much bale has missed through injury?? Suarez never gets injured. Plus he’s a striker and scores more goals, so the under value I can’t see, and I hope liverpool take that stance and say he’s worth this amount, if u think different then don’t buy him.
    If they reach an amount and Suarez wants to leave, then any deal would have to be cash and exchange of a player, higuain is the obvious choice, and my deal to them would be higuain and £40m, that’s how highly we rate Suarez, if u don’t want to do the deal, then drop out.
