The three signings that would soften Mkhitaryan blow

Liverpool targetsREPORTS begun to surface towards the end of last week that Henrikh Mkhitaryan will not be heading to Anfield after all, but instead looks likely to join Champions League finalists, Borussia Dortmund.

The Guardian, The Daily Mail, and Mirror have all come out with stories about how the Westphalian club have seemingly beaten Liverpool FC to the signature of the Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder. Although these reports could be further speculation in the on-going saga that has surrounded Mkhitaryan, if true they would be a serious blow.

Much had already been made about the abilities of the Armenian midfielder and Liverpool fans had long been awaiting his arrival as a marquee signing. If Brendan Rodgers and management at Anfield had secured the signature of the Shakhtar player then it could have been a clear sign of the direction in which the club was headed.

With the uncertainty surrounded the future of Luis Suarez, the need for Liverpool to prepare for the loss of the Uruguayan was never more immediate. Although it remains uncertain if Suarez will stay or go, a player of Mkhitaryan’s calibre would have been a welcome addition to the team no matter when he was added.

At times last season Liverpool’s attack was void of bite and their play lacked a creative spark but Mkhitaryan could have possibly provided some remedy to this situation. If the reports of his signing with Borussia Dortmund prove to be true then Liverpool will need to look in another direction.

Brendan Rodgers has hinted that he is not done strengthening his squad this summer and has implied that he may look to add a creative, attacking option, as well as, an additional player to slot in at centre-back. For some these are necessities, as is the signing of a physical, defensive midfielder who can distribute the ball and orchestrate the attack from behind.

As far as an attacking midfielder is concerned, Liverpool may once again turn their gaze to Christian Eriksen. The Danish youngster from Ajax certainly has plenty of potential and his best years ahead of him. Indeed, there may have been some who would have rated him above Mkhitaryan except that the Dane is not quite as experienced.

Sticking with Ajax, Liverpool have long been rumoured with Toby Alderweireld, Eriksen’s teammate at the Dutch club. Alderweireld would add youth to the back line and potential. He would also challenge for a spot at the centre-back position and would be more than capable of earning a starting spot outright.

As for a defensive midfielder, a man high on many a list is Celtic’s Victor Wanyama. At only 22 the Kenyan has impressed for the Scottish champions and has made a move to the Premier League likely. However, Liverpool may need to act fast to sign Wanyama as both Southampton and Cardiff are circling.

The loss of Mkhitaryan’s signature, if proven to be true, could be a serious blow to Liverpool’s aspirations. Luckily for the Merseyside club the summer is far from over and there is plenty of talent left on the table.

Darren bent might be worth a punt. And ben arfa in mid field.

  • gratieo says:

This is the worst lvp i ever see

  • Tommo says:

Your all deluded! How can anyone say LFC went backwards last season? Over the second half of the season we were the 3rd best in the prem (top 4 form me thinks). Rodgers said at the start of the season that it was going to be a transitional period and it would take until January for his system to take effect, and results were even better without saurez so no loss if he goes. Borini and Allen are good signings who will come good (trust me) they were overwhelmed playing for LFC understandable we’re a massive club. Although gutted to lose out mkhitaryan if we can get eriksen and Alderwierd for what he would of cost then not a bad bit of business YNWA

    • realist says:

Ha ha ha . Get a clue

Second half of last season , 19 games league table . Wewere 6th .

6th not 3rd . Get your facts right , or stop making stuff up

Either way , we are going nowhere with Rodgers , nowhere !

      • Dave says:

Hahaha going nowhere with Rodgers lets sack him and start again then may I ask who you suggest we get him to replace him. Your pathetic support your team and manager or do one

        • realist says:

Oooh . The usual idiotic ‘support your team’s rubbish !

I support my club. Rodgers is bad for my club , therefore best thing is for him to go

    • Paul LFC says:

Why post lies tommo ? Your full of BS

  • Dolph says:

A russian billionaire is the only solution other than that it will be championship football in 5 yrs..Leeds united?ring a bell?

  • Johnny says:

1st, Mkhitaryan, “HE” chose Dortmund, end of story.
we are only a week into the transfer season, plenty of deals to be done yet. I just hope we stop buying potential, and buy some class players.

    • Marshall says:

Not with fsg…deluded americans…lets give them just one mo year get get them out.russians or chinese are better investers

      • David says:

Why would you want an owner who is going to spend money with no intention of return? Firstly, it doesn’t guarantee success.

Secondly, it makes you reliant upon the owner look at teams like Malaga, yea they were a better team for a few years but now there owners took off and they are in serious trouble, they are selling all their best players.

Thirdly and most importantly, Liverpool are one of the most prestigious clubs in Europe, if we had a stupid billionaire inbpvestor who isn’t looking for a return in their money, we would just become a soulless club like Chelsea and man city.

FSG are credible with a very credible history, they know what they are doing.

Brendan Rodgers is a fantastic manager from what I have seen, he is bullsy (loaning out Carroll, dropping downing selling Adam) he knows what he wants and wont let anything get in his way and in my opinion we are playing the best football I have seen even better than in 2009.

All of you have faith in our system. We will be back to the top in a sustainable fashion before you think.

        • TRexTheRed says:

David, I’m no sure I’m as positive as you are but I’m certainly not one of the doom and gloom merchants! BR has a plan! I believe we are moving I the right direction but it is taking time to correct the mistakes made by King Kenny (it hurts to say but it was a backwards step)! The three players listed about would be perfect for LFC and I would add Honda to the list!

        • realist says:

No we won’t . You deluded fool. Wake up . FSG are here to make money

          • David says:

The only way FSG make money is if we get CL football

I am happy they are there to make money means we will be successfull

          • realist says:

??? Funny that . We were in champion league nearly every season before FSG came.

They are already making money from Liverpool. Anyway their idiotic plan of hiring a second rate manager and not spending much wont ever work

          • David says:

Yea we were nearly every season until hikks and gillet ruined our club.

FSG and rodgers are sending us on the right track and trying to rebuild.

They are buying cheap and developing players. They have done well so far and I am sure they will. Continue to do so

          • realist says:

Yeah super . 7th place and buying cheap average players with a clueless yes man as their manager

  • SuaRed says:

See this is the problem with lfc fans now! They don’t see the plan, are always snipeing at the manager (BR is the manager but whoever we had as manager you’d still be at it!).

We need to understand what we’re doing! Exactly the same a BVB! Just because we didn’t buy 1 player is not the end if the world! We move on to the next target etc.

I’m happy about the direction were going in!

    • Ben says:

No we are doing the same as Blackburn , with idiot owners and budget cuts

    • Paul LFC says:

Like us going backwards then ?

Fsg turning us into Everton. Mid table and average. Wakeup

  • Will says:

Bloody hell some of the comments on here are hilarious. Learn English.

So we lost out “allegedly” on our top target. It’s the transfer window and all clubs play games and say this club or that club are interested to drive up a players value or to let another club know that they won’t be held to ransom. See the so called interest in Suarez from Arsenal. They want Higuain and are playing games with Madrid.

The signings BR has made are what we needed for the team. It seems some people think that only signing big name attacking players will solve all our woes. Deluded. The only thing needed is possibly a centre back if BR thinks Skirtel will not get back the form that had us vote him player of the season 2 years ago. I think Toure was brought in precisely to force Skirtel to up his game.

If you’re already writing us off before a ball has even been kicked then don’t bother watching. It’s about time we stuck with a manager and at least BR plays good football and has us banging in the goals. Not to mention that there is now a clear path from the academy.

Progress is being made and if you can’t see that you’re an idiot.

    • David says:

Thank you finally Someone with sense.

We never even made a bid for him and I don’t recall anyone credible saying that we want him so how did we lose out when we didn’t even try and get him.

Personally I think we have one of the best managers in Europe you guys just don’t know it because he hasn’t got a ‘big name’.

Wait and see give him a fair try (at least 2 more seasons) then judge him

      • realist says:

Rodgers isn’t even a championship manager. Totally useless. Even reading sacked him

        • David says:

Well he clearly is better than a championship manager as he took an average team from the premiership, got them promoted, had the balls to play attractive football with his newly promoted team and came mid table.

Rodgers is one of the best managers in Europe and he has the opportunity to show that. Lets see what you say in a few years

    • realist says:

If you see imaginary progress , we are happy for you.

  • Marshall says:

The german and spanish league has limited competion, unlike epl so weather we like it or not we need major investments otherwise we will be in a relegation dog fight this season.and in order to keep suarez we need to buy quality…hate him but with fsg policy we wont get replacement.

    • Will says:

Haha limited competition?! That’ll be why Michu destroyed defences up and down EPL then? It’ll be why Carzorla was so poor eh? These players combined cost less than 15 million. Neither played for big 2 in Spain.

The German league is massively ahead of us and we all know what Spanish league has to offer. The EPL is poor. It just has money. That is all.

Oh and by the way, it’s whether. Moron.

      • Paul LFC says:

You are braindead will. You haven’t made one intelligent comment. Just the usual naive waffle

  • char says:

thank you will a true liverpool educated supporter.

  • Prince says:

see my guys we have 2 do fast business b/4 is too late 4 us, and we dnt get things right in this business issue.

  • YNWA says:

Stay away from Wanyama we already have Allen Lucas gerrard. We need a cam not a cdm. And a new striker maybe
Luis Muriel or Leandro Damião and Dave we are going in the right direction under Brendan Rodgers.

  • Yaxin mullah ali says:

I lyk ur argument ths how lfc fans think even though we mised mkhitaryan,if br wanted him m sure we could hav him.i haven’t read anywhere that we had made a bid for him n it was rejected .br too so far hasn’t commented.all in all under br we’r in rght track

  • POS says:

There are some idiots on this forum. Where you all up in arms over Coutinho and Sturridge signings – they cost less than Mkytarian put together and they have run riot even without Suarez. We knew Suarez was a nasty b*****d when he arrived and was only using LFC as a stepping stone. You can’t go to the world elite having just bitten someone and deliberately hand balled in a world cup. Aspas and Alberto both look shrewd signings. Toure is obviously an experienced head to fill the gap left by JC whilst Mingolet is a stroke of genius to get Reina back to his best. The window is only a week old and for a net spend of 0.5m our squad is looking better than it has for years. BR even got Downing playing well (and scoring ffs). Give BR and FSG a break and see what the next few weeks brings or foff to Chelsea

    • Ben says:

Blah blah . Your the biggest idiot . You foff to Chelsea . Your talking sh*te

      • POS says:

That means nothing. Just bitterness without anything constructive. What exactly do you you propose… Names/budgets/players that want to play for a mid table team? FSG are turning us around from a club hours from administration to a viable sale. I don’t have a problem with that. If they sell to consortium/individual that can take us all the way then great. FSG have done everything they said they would when they bought us. They were honest and said it wouldn’t be a quick fix. What do you expect?

        • Dean says:

They aren’t honest .stop being soooooooooo gullible

          • POS says:

It’s not gullible. We knew the moneyball ethics, we knew they wanted to reduce salary structure as a result of both the looming liquidation and the new regs. They invested heavily to begin with and got burnt. They cut the debt and have transformed the finances. We knew they did not understand football and treat LFC as a business and not with the emotion us fans have.We know they are trying to sell at a profit. Everything they have done with regards to sponsorship has only really been to increase the value of the club to buyers. Again this is all fine. When it comes to the point when they sell the club will be a financially healthy business. Any prospective buyer will need to have money to burn or have real passion for LFC. Either way the next Owner/s can only improve the club further as from a business point of view the club will be looking pretty steady when they take over and will need a fraction of the work it once needed to turn it around… Unless they borrow to the hilt against all the clubs assets again but in the current economic climate that won’t be allowed to happen.

    • Osei says:

      Wise head

    • realist says:

Usual nonsense. How long before coutinho decides to leave too ?

…and aspas and Alberto shrewd ??? Ha ha . Aspas is a cheap squad filler and Alberto one for future , not now

      • POS says:

Aspas is a hungry replacement for Downing with a lot of skills and traits that can translate to the EPL and agreed Alberto is going to be blOoded this year but still looks like he could be boss.

I’m not saying Coutinho won’t leave but at least I’m not shooting down the newcomers before they kick a ball. Given the average age of the signings have you ever thought they could gel to become a competitive team before they decide to leave?

    • OssieL4 says:

Nice post mate!! 100% on the money

  • David Jones says:

Reading about LFC is becoming more and more like reading about a horror story.

I still can’t believe a non-entity who was sacked by Reading is actually managing LFC. And Rafa wasnt even spoken to.

I cant believe how many great players have left the club OR have had Fenway trying to asset strip out. The fools believe all the pr spin against Luis, one of our greatest ever players (I actually think THE best).

Brutal wage cuts. And internet forums full of “Fenways little soldiers” ie pr men pretending to be fans, and clueless fools agreeing with them.

Moores was slaughtered for “only” winning the champs lge. Yet these American conmen are applauding for making us more and more a bunch of mid table also rans.

Worst part is, Fenway have had the club up for sale 16months. YEt they REFUSE fan investment to try and get us back into the top 4.

American owners are a CANCER in our game. Its Tom Hicks with smarm.

      Top comment

    • Will says:

Also it wasn’t FSG that saved us from the brink of nothingness eh? It’s really sad that so called Liverpool fans now seem to be on a permanent mission to find fault and doom and gloom when for the first time in 20 years we have a hungry manager and a plan for the future.

    • Gediminas says:

      Yes you are 100% right

    • Jack says:

You are right David Jones , sadly

    • POS says:

Suarez is a great player but our greatest is pushing it. Plus he is a total loose cannon. I would love him to stay for at least one more season but I can also see that certain parts of his game don’t benefit the club. For a start his shots per game was one of the highest in the league but his conversion to goals isn’t outstanding; can’t he just lay off the simple pass to claim the assist ie Mata. And before the witch hunt I know he has an abundance of skill and can be a world beater on his day I’m simply stating he also struggles to think beyond himself as some of his more controversial actions and comments prove. But as I said I still hope he stays.

    • Arthur says:

David Jones. I actually agree with most of that

  • Will says:

What great players have left under FSG? Torres? Give me a break. Adam? Shelvey? Carroll? Cole? Don’t think so. Try again mate. They trusted Kenny and that Spurs reject and got screwed over. Now they refuse to be held to ransom and all of a sudden are short changing the fans! What a load of rubbish.

Fickle non fans on here. Go support the plastic flag wavers.

  • rico says:

If players dnt wish to come to anfield its fine,we rather have players that play wholeheartedly regardless of whether they are the best money can buy, the crest on the front of the shirt Is and will always be what us true fans live for, names on the back will change like the seasonz, ynwa to all fans that support and believe. 5 times guys, we still own england even if evryone else thinks we shite. I think suarez must go with all his negativity. We can weather any storm as we never walk alone.

  • agf1968 says:

Eriksen should be the number 1 target – cant believe he hasn’t been snapped up by a team in Europe. Think he is as near to a Gerrard replacement as I have seen

  • Kay says:

    Im so sorry lfc

  • Ozred says:

    Eriksen… Get it done…

  • Jack says:

Sad times for LFC :-(. Without a decent manager and some funds we are doomed
