Disillusioned Suarez must avoid Arsenal side-step to go forward

LiverpoolTHE murmurs of a potential switch from Anfield to the Emirates for want away striker Luis Suarez were originally treated with disdain. The Uruguayan has made it clear that the belligerent treatment he has been given by the English press has left him feeling somewhat disconsolate.

These words provided most fans with the idea that, although unfortunately a move away from Liverpool was inevitable, a move abroad was definitive.

Nevertheless, recently, Arsenal’s interest in Suarez has ignited to the point of an official bid being lodged. £30 million, despite being significantly south of the club’s valuation, indicates that Arsene Wenger’s desire to get his hands on the exasperating yet talented Uruguayan is unequivocal.

The offer was rejected outright, however, sources close to the Gunners suggest that a second big is forthcoming; yet more substance to a determination to secure the signature of Liverpool’s star man. Suggestions have been made from reputable sports writers that Luis Suarez has spoken to his agent in order to determine the true profundity of Arsenal’s interest.

Although unconfirmed, if these reports are true, there may be foundations for a potential transfer that would trump any deals Liverpool have ever been involved in, in terms of pure shock value.

Putting to one side the more merciless Liverpool supporters, the majority of fans would not begrudge Luis Suarez a move to a top European club. The Uruguayan is, quite simply, outstanding and the Champions League would be strengthened with his involvement. That said, if you take into account the reasons he has continuously cited for his exit, a move to a fellow Premier League team would make absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Once you have envisaged the outrage of Luis Suarez holding up an Arsenal shirt after he lambasted the English press, you have to wonder to yourself – is a move to Arsenal that much of an elevation from a community that worships his every move and has consistently exonerated him despite a history of indefensible actions?

I understand that Arsenal would provide Luis Suarez with the one thing he craves – Champions League football. Nonetheless, to concur with the thoughts of former Gunners captain Kolo Toure, do Arsenal offer substantially more opportunities for silverware than Liverpool?

Furthermore, do Arsene Wenger’s team, having failed to reach the quarter-finals for the past three seasons, pose a genuine threat in the competition to the likes of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid? Just two of the teams Suarez would be capable of making an impact at across Europe.

If you need clarification about the ambitions of Arsenal – ask Robin Van Persie. Ask Cesc Fabregas. Even ask the likes of Alex Song, Samir Nasri, Gael Clichy and Emmanuel Adebayor. All six of those players left the Emirates despite consistent Champions League qualification in order to enhance their opportunities of success.

Despite this piece being that of opinion, the facts are there for all to see. Arsenal Football Club hasn’t won a trophy in EIGHT years. To put that into perspective, the last time Arsene Wenger led his side to glory, Twitter was eight months away from its creation.

This is not intended as a comparison article. The concept of this piece is not to try and prove that Liverpool are better than Arsenal – its sole purpose is to contextualise the reasons why a move to the south of England would not bestow Luis Suarez with the opportunity to embellish his career.

The silence from club officials is deafening. The only person that seems to speak of the situation, objectionably, is Suarez himself. Right now, the cure for this scenario is for the Uruguayan to actively seek a transfer by requesting one. Skirting around the issue is assisting nobody and a conclusive attitude is what is required.

He may not feel as though he owes Liverpool Football Club anything, however, without doubt, Luis Suarez owes the fans respect. A move abroad would be mutually accepted by all as those that adore him and can still admire his talents, albeit from afar.

You seem to forget we have built and largely paid for a stadium in those 8 years. We are now in a position to challenge if we buy players of quality. Certainly more chance that liverpool.

  • Gary says:

Arsenal as they stand can not win silverware but with suarez as a vocal point they would be serious contenders on all fronts

  • Sausage says:

I hope he never plays for us again, he has no respect whatsoever for LFC.
Do your thing Rodgers and the player that cones will be the player thats wants to wear our beloved shirt. All i want this season is commitment and passion from the players and the fans.we have a team that can beat the big teams, we just need to lift them up and push them on with our support.

  • Sebastian says:

If you think joining Arsenal would be anything other than a step up from Liverpool, then you want to go and have a quiet word with yourself mate.

Sold allll those players, and STILL finished above you! Poor Liverpool.

  • Aaron says:

How is arsenal a side step when they are in the top 4 and u aren’t. Stop listeningg to these bandwagon jumpers and look at arsenals squad compared to yours. Different class

  • James says:

Arsenal will have substantial funds now to make major signings. People can laugh at the fact they haven’t won anything for 8 years, but they’ve done pretty well to qualify for the Champions League every year and at least compete for trophies, despite being at a serious disadvantage to many of the other teams they’re competing against.

We’ll see what Wenger can do with a big transfer budget and the ability to attract top players, but I think it’s safe to say, both the short and long term future looks a lot brighter for Arsenal than Liverpool. It might not be a leap in terms of quality, but it can hardly be called a side-step. They’re a couple of top quality players away (ie Suarez and Higuain) from being a serious contender for major trophies, Liverpool are 5 or 6 players away.

Having said that, i’d be suprised if Luis Suarez ends up at Arsenal, i’d still expect him to be at Real Madrid within the next few weeks.

How can playing cl football be a side step as liverpool not even in european football this season. Coug

  • Gunss says:

Come to Arsenal Luis, you can score goals as we sit and watch in silence.

  • Sunny Days says:

Well first of all being an Arsenal fan I can honestly say the last thing any Arsenal fan would want is a brainless, racist animal like Suarez at our club. Nobody wants that thing at Arsenal. Secondly you are oblivious to the fact that we have built a new £300 million stadium and as a consequence our transfer activity has been somewhat hamstrung by our need to pay off the debt – did you not notice that we haven’t been playing at Highbury for a while ? Thirdly I believe that Liverpool are planning to relocate from Anfield to a new stadium, I have even heard that you are keen to adopt a self sustainable financial system just as we have done ,so, in fact you will probably be going through the same financially hard times that we are now coming out of. Yes we have not won anything for eight years but it is difficult to compete with teams who can throw hundreds of millions of pounds at a problem when you have strict financial constraints but, as we come out of it we will be able to throw lots of money into the squad but the key difference is the money we spend will be our own, generated from our business activities. Arsenal’s approach is the future and as Liverpool tighten their belts when they start to build their new stadium Arsenal will be going from strength to strength..

  • D Lusional says:

    Sebastian

Arsenal sold all their best players, funding a move to a world class stadium while Liverpool spent multi millions on player after player, yet who is in the top 4, with funds to spend, finally and who is stuck in midtable mediocrity yet again.

    Gotta love those delusional scousers.

    YAWN

  • Mike says:

You are a bit misinformed. To suggest that Arsenal lack ambtion and to then try and use examples of Van Persie, Fabregas and other few players who left Arsenal recently is just hidig the fact that you don’t like Arsenal. No problem with that. But I believe Arsenal are on the up and will finish above Liverpool this coming season. If we buy Suarez and a good midfielder then we stand as good a chane as any of the said top teams to win the Premeirship or even the Champions League. Don’t report out of animosity.

  • The spirit of Dennis Bergkamp says:

Hahaha, you delusional bindippers, “side step”..is that something you tramps do in the dole queue to get to the front?

When was the last time you bag heads won the league?

AFC (cream rises to the top)

    • Tony T says:

its getting on a bit since you lot won it too, you’re talking of been delusional, your lot have about as much of hope winning title as you have of signing Messi.

  • Dean says:

    Liverpool fan here .

Even I have to admit that right now arsenal is a big step up. We have a poor squad and our owners won’t spend what is needed. Added to that we have a useless inexperienced manager , to be blunt – we are going nowhere.
Unfortunately arsenal have two things we don’t – a good manager and some money

Don’t blame Luis if he goes , he has been magnificent for us , our saviour last season

    • Deano says:

I doubt your a liverpool fan more like a dirty little gooner is disguise u joke! liverpool are better in every single way.

  • Jordangoonef says:

With Arsenal current team, Cazorla, Wilshere,The Oz, Walcott, Poldolsky,Gibbs with Suarez Arsenal would be more than a side step. Now that the stadium is more than75% paid off and the massive increse in revenue. Arsenal will now start to challenge in a big way.Wenger is a very astute guy.

    • Tony T says:

I don’t know, that team doesn’t look that tasty and I think even with Suarez you will still need more quality to actually challenge for a title or CL.

      • Tel says:

Lol Muzza, Arsenal and the champions league, its like always been the bridesmaid isn’t it?

  • steve says:

I wouldn’t count your chickens, Liverpool hold all the cards not suarez

  • stevieG says:

We must not under any circumstances sell Suarez . Without him we are doomed to mid table mediocrity.

Yes Arsenal are way ahead of us right now ….we have NO chance of catching up if we sell our best players

  • Fabrice says:

Even with 8 years without a trophy, we’ve still managed to remain a top 4 team with all the money constraints and the stadium debts. We have now generated £70M + from our own resources.. and do not depend on cash rich owners like the mancs and chelsea.
Give us some credit for that.

At the moment arsenal is a big step us for luis because we have better chances of landing silverware that liverpool.

I reckon that suarez to arsenal will be like torres to chelsea.. life is hard man!

    Peace N love!

  • gunner4ever says:

Arsenal football club are a side with huge ambition, its an absolute credit to arsene wenger that during the trophyless years of recent that we always qualified for the champions league.now the times have changed as we are very well off with massive matchday,tv revenues and commercial deals not to mention huge cash reserves untouched.we can now go for a player like suarez to kick on to the next level.man city and chelsea are clubs with a 5 to 10yr history and will never be as big as liverpool or arsenal.suarez would be a fine signing but also id like it if he stayed at liverpool as it would be refreshing to see a player stay where hes been well looked after and adored,as a gooner i know only too well the hurt and betrayal feelings when a quality player departs.whatever happens with the suarez saga i hope he stays in english football as hes quality entertainment in all sorts of ways, can you imagine us letting him loose in a north london derby?,exciting and scarey at the same time.liverpool with or without him will always be a top notch quality famous club.thankyou.

  • Deano says:

Arsenal might somehow scrape into the champs league every season, but it doesn`t mean a thing as they struggle in the group stages and get knocked out in the second round anyway, so why would Suarez even want to go there?, he`s quoted as saying, he would only leave for a bigger club, not a smaller one, so by that logic, Arsenal have no chance of even signing him!

  • jack f says:

torres to chelsea, suarez to arsenal, who cares. liverpool fc was never a one man team and will never be. it took Sir Alex F six years to become champions, and there is so much promise in the team and squad, that we will work it out. torres, suarez, who cares?

    • Dennis says:

That’s amazingly naive . You can’t win anything by selling best players . And our squad is poor

      • Gunss says:

The squad is not poor, they may have under achieved but we can match most teams is most positions ie

        Suarez-van persie- aguero- torres

        Gerrard- mata- rooney- bale

        Coutinho- hazard- nani-walcott

        Agger- vermarelen- vidic-ivanovic

        Reina-cech-de gea-szczesny

Sturridge is as good as any teams 2nd striker and sterrling is as promising as any clubs young back up
