Disillusioned Suarez must avoid Arsenal side-step to go forward

LiverpoolTHE murmurs of a potential switch from Anfield to the Emirates for want away striker Luis Suarez were originally treated with disdain. The Uruguayan has made it clear that the belligerent treatment he has been given by the English press has left him feeling somewhat disconsolate.

These words provided most fans with the idea that, although unfortunately a move away from Liverpool was inevitable, a move abroad was definitive.

Nevertheless, recently, Arsenal’s interest in Suarez has ignited to the point of an official bid being lodged. £30 million, despite being significantly south of the club’s valuation, indicates that Arsene Wenger’s desire to get his hands on the exasperating yet talented Uruguayan is unequivocal.

The offer was rejected outright, however, sources close to the Gunners suggest that a second big is forthcoming; yet more substance to a determination to secure the signature of Liverpool’s star man. Suggestions have been made from reputable sports writers that Luis Suarez has spoken to his agent in order to determine the true profundity of Arsenal’s interest.

Although unconfirmed, if these reports are true, there may be foundations for a potential transfer that would trump any deals Liverpool have ever been involved in, in terms of pure shock value.

Putting to one side the more merciless Liverpool supporters, the majority of fans would not begrudge Luis Suarez a move to a top European club. The Uruguayan is, quite simply, outstanding and the Champions League would be strengthened with his involvement. That said, if you take into account the reasons he has continuously cited for his exit, a move to a fellow Premier League team would make absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Once you have envisaged the outrage of Luis Suarez holding up an Arsenal shirt after he lambasted the English press, you have to wonder to yourself – is a move to Arsenal that much of an elevation from a community that worships his every move and has consistently exonerated him despite a history of indefensible actions?
[ad_pod id=”unruly-video” align=”center”]
I understand that Arsenal would provide Luis Suarez with the one thing he craves – Champions League football. Nonetheless, to concur with the thoughts of former Gunners captain Kolo Toure, do Arsenal offer substantially more opportunities for silverware than Liverpool?

Furthermore, do Arsene Wenger’s team, having failed to reach the quarter-finals for the past three seasons, pose a genuine threat in the competition to the likes of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid? Just two of the teams Suarez would be capable of making an impact at across Europe.

If you need clarification about the ambitions of Arsenal – ask Robin Van Persie. Ask Cesc Fabregas. Even ask the likes of Alex Song, Samir Nasri, Gael Clichy and Emmanuel Adebayor. All six of those players left the Emirates despite consistent Champions League qualification in order to enhance their opportunities of success.

Despite this piece being that of opinion, the facts are there for all to see. Arsenal Football Club hasn’t won a trophy in EIGHT years. To put that into perspective, the last time Arsene Wenger led his side to glory, Twitter was eight months away from its creation.

This is not intended as a comparison article. The concept of this piece is not to try and prove that Liverpool are better than Arsenal – its sole purpose is to contextualise the reasons why a move to the south of England would not bestow Luis Suarez with the opportunity to embellish his career.

The silence from club officials is deafening. The only person that seems to speak of the situation, objectionably, is Suarez himself. Right now, the cure for this scenario is for the Uruguayan to actively seek a transfer by requesting one. Skirting around the issue is assisting nobody and a conclusive attitude is what is required.

He may not feel as though he owes Liverpool Football Club anything, however, without doubt, Luis Suarez owes the fans respect. A move abroad would be mutually accepted by all as those that adore him and can still admire his talents, albeit from afar.

Even if arsanal do get Suarez they won’t win a trophy and also Liverpool have archived a lot more than arsenal in the last 8 years , just because arsanal finish in the top 4 does not mean they are a successful club success is winning trophies .

  • Spraff says:

Sidestep haha. Yeah right. Typical Litterpool fans with delusions of grandeur.

    • Tony T says:

Delusions? Well all those little silver pots Liverpool have shine a lot brighter all of of Arsenals.

  • Gunss says:

Even when you had van persie and nasri and fabregas you won nothing. Finishing in the top four means nothing if you dont spend the money to impove your team. Next time you go to the emirates check out the trophy room, then come up north to Anfield and marvel at all the silver. Anfield, the only place in UK that you can see a CL trophy any day of the week.

    • Muzza says:

I think you’ll find fabregas was at arsenal during the invincibles season and they won something then didnt they you Jeremy Kyle educated minor

      • Gunss says:

Ha ha he wasn’t even awarded a league winners medal in 2003-2004 as he didn’t play 1 league game. Hows that for jeremy kyle trivia you mug

        • Muzza says:

Still part of the team, you mentioned “even with fabregas” well he was at arsenal, still you can try and finish above Everton next season

  • Dennis says:

Suarez is one of the top 5 players in the world .. Although arsenal are better than us , Suarez should be playing for a top top club

    • Cal says:

Doesnt really matter, Real have offered Higuain and 25m for Suarez, thats a good deal for Liverpool, I think they will take it.

  • mick says:

Don’t really care as long as we get good money. He wants a move but is too greedy to request one. Madrid only rate him at 25 mil. Only chelski man city psg and monaco will pay what’s required. We could have 3 top players for the money we’d get.

    • Liam says:

But we wont get 3 top players . Rodgers will buy more Borini or Aspas average players

  • LOL says:

Sidestep? Why do you Liverpudlians constantly think you are on level with Arsenal?? Getting embarrassing now….

    • Liam says:

To be fair only the deludes do . Most intelligent Liverpool fans know the state we are in .

  • Liam says:

Lets face facts guys , under FSG we are nothing . They have turned us into mid table also rans and that’s it for us as long as they own LFC .

  • TomJ says:

Side step? From a joke club that change their manager every two years, who employ the biggest joke of a manager who cannot stop talking, a joke club who pay 35 million for AC. To a club that play in the CL every year. I think its the blogger that is disillusioned- primarily about the status of his club. A side step for Suarez would be Fulham- not Arsenal- and you know it

    • Harry says:

Not much of a step though, you may be in the Champs League, but its a bit like saying Doncaster will be in the FA Cup, may be in but just are not not going to win it. Sure Liverpool are average but aren’t Arsenal deluding themselves if they think any of the big clubs in Europe are in any way threatened by them.

  • 49Unbeaten says:

Wenger told us all along that we’d struggle for last 5-8 years…..8 years ago. We’ve got massive funds now and more to come. Now we have the funds we’re finally showing ambition . I don’t want to be disrespectful but this article is terrible and blinkered. Suarez was the only reason that Liverpool did as well as they did in finnishing 7th. Without him it would defintely have been the lower half of the table. Arsenal had 3 foreign signings, ALL from different leagues, to try and gel together and finnish in the top four. The players did that by the second half of the season and took 28 points from 30 in the last 10 games, and 40 from 48 in the last 16 games. Next season those same players will step up again with the addition of Suarez we could be serious, serious contenders. Wilshere, Arteta, Cazorla and Walcott etc feeding Suarez? I can see why he’d want to be a part of that…..

  • UpTheARSEnal says:

Good lord..why are there so many idiots in the world? People consistently say “Arsenal need to buy world-class players in order to win trophies”.

Here we are, trying to buy world class players. You still think we won’t win trophies if we buy these players? Honestly, what is wrong with people? I guess Arsenal shouldn’t buy world class players then. Will still be above Liverpool.

Oh, well I guess Man City, Chelsea etc. only won because they didn’t buy world class players. OH WAIT.

  • Jordan says:

Adding Suarez automatically puts Arsenal in contention for the league this year. The EPL will not be as strong as usual with the changing of everyone’s managers. If they can add Fellaini, Higuain and Williams they can possibly make the top 4 in Champs league. If I was a forward I’d be loving going to Arsenal. No real competition for a starting spot. Maintain majority of possession and create chances for a forward who can score. So why not. Go to Real and u might end up like Hig, a world class forward and play less than half the season. Go to Bayern and compete with a guy who can score 4 goals on Real. I might be biased but a team that finished strong and finally has money again. Arsenal looks like a good place for a striker to go

  • UpTheARSEnal says:

Arsenal hasn’t failed to finish in the top 4 for the last 16 seasons, the last 8 of which we have been seriously crippled financially by moving to a brand spanking new stadium. This move has proven the downfall for MANY top clubs in the past.

WE have survived, and STILL managed to finish in the top 4 after constantly losing our top players. Where the hell are Liverpool?

Imagine what Wenger could do if he actually had some money to spend, if he can manage to finish in top 4 spending less then Liverpool has.

  • steve says:

just of late there has been loads of arsenal fans slagging wenger and there own club, now all of a sudden there is a explosion of arsenal fans *there pants of the possibility of landing suarez, my good god get a life ffs, LATEST RUMOUR SUAREZ SWAP DEAL WITH REAL, that would burst your happy bubble

  • Joseph says:

Arsenal are a better team than Liverpool so it would not be a side-step. He would be playing alongside better players, under a better manager, and for a side who know how to manage their finances. He would also be playing in the Championsleague. Arsenal may not win the competition, but they are in it. As fans you should be less concerned about where he goes and more concerned about how you invest the money you get (regardless of where it comes from) wisely – Which by the way – you have consistently shown you are unable to do (see Andy Carrol, Jordan Henderson, Joe Allen , Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing. The amounts you paid for these is laughable, and probably goes some way to explaining why you are unable to properly value players)

  • Peter pool says:

Yea billy but we had king kenny so there

  • Gaby says:

If he does leave, I hope it will be quick and good business for LFC. I will hold no grudge against him. Thank you for his services, it’s time to move on for LFC. We will be ok without him. Unfortunately, I don’t think it will be anytime soon for deal to be done. And not to be disrespect to Arsenal; I don’t think his interesting of moving to ASL is anything but proposal to RM or BM. I hope he’s leave, don’t wanna end up with unhappy player.

  • gunner4ever says:

deano the champions league can be won by a dozen clubs and we are 1 of those,we won 0.2 in munich last year and only went out by away goals.what odds were liverpool and chelsea when they recently won it?,they werent the best teams in europe but had the needed luck you need to win the champions league,1 day we will get a bit of luck and lift the big ears trophy i believe.we need 3 or 4 quality additions and we should be good to go on all fronts.suarez to lift the champs league next may?,what you reckon deano?,lol.

  • Gully says:

Oh my how those Gooners react. Must be lovely having a spanking new stadium with an empty trophy cabinet nearly fans for last eight years that’s why ur top players want away. Hardly surprising Higuain would rather sit on the bench at Madrid than play for the nearly rans

    • TomJ says:

And how does it feel having an old stadium that holds 40,000 and generates on third of the matchday revenue with an EMPTY trophy cabinet and NO EUROPEAN FOOTBALL. A disgrace for a once great club- not in your lifetime though

      • Harry says:

That old stadium has seen more glory that any Arsenal fan can imagine, with a trophy cabinet that dwarfs that cupboard you have for the Emirates cup, that’s even if you have won it, but any of you gooner’s can correct me there. Also know that in about 2 years time that old stadium will have been revamped to a capacity larger than the Emirates stadium, but hey you have your pop.

      • steve says:

new stadium on its way but to be honest I would rather keep this old stadium and its full cabinet, you go on about cl but you never get anywhere with it so why bother, give me call when you actually win something

      • Tel says:

Your talking tosh, gushing over an arsenal team that hasn’t won half the trophies that Liverpool has, do you class success as gaining entry as nothing more than an also ran into the Champs League as something to be proud of, its not exactly thrilling is it? and who gives a toss about your stadium and all the revenue you generate, you still don’t win anything, btw have a lovely day 🙂

    • steve says:

I wouldn’t talk about top players walking away, talk about digging yourself a hole

    • TomJ says:

Haha… Your man Gully tried to tautnt by saying “thats why ur top players want away”, in an article by a Liverpool fan about Liverpools top player wanting away. What a ……..

    • Goonerjoe says:

Those who live in glass houses 22-23 years or so since Liverpool won a league.

      • Tel says:

And its already 8 years and counting for Arsenal, they don’t be long about chalking up do they 😉

  • ajfuentos says:

I read all ur mukiritos statement as regard Liverpool and I laugh. We don’t care what u feel about lfc. And selling the ungrateful suarez to you don’t still make u better than us. Check your profile as against us we still remain d undiscussable team in d world. Have ur suarez and u’ll still remain d same. It s a shame going without a single trophy for years’yet u claimed arsenal better than Liverpool. I’m sorry for u all

  • Red scorpion says:

Arsenal fans are truly deluded they would rather just be playing champions league than winning a trophy, gooners don’t know anything about winning

    • Stan says:

Something your not going to watch your team in next season either!

    • dannythegooner says:

redlion that’s funny from Liverpool fan, how long was it they played in cl not even in Europe this season

    • TopGun says:

Sounds like a reds fan here. Lets have it right now. Liverpool were great and cannot offer CL football and if there were to by a miracle able to scrape into the top 4 they’d not make any team sit up!!
Now if you’re a Man U fan, lets just say you’ll be fighting Liverpool to reach top 4.
Remember 16 years of consecutive CL football Arsenal, being top 4 calibre have not spend the kind of money that’s been the standard for the other usual suspects.
I would rightly believe that Man U are finished, under Moyes.
      Be afraid haters.
