£32m Brazilian Willian winging his way to Anfield

Liverpool targetLIVERPOOL FC’s chase for a marquee signing could be over according to The Daily Mirror, as they hope to land Willian.

Reports suggest that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has identified the Brazilian winger as the one big signing for the summer.

Willian only joined Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala 8 months ago but due to financial difficulties the owner has, in theory, made all members of the first team squad available for transfer.

Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group are willing to bank-roll one major signing and with the Russian club looking to slash costs the Reds are hopeful of completing a deal for under the £32million Willian moved for 8 months ago.

The Anfield club have missed out on a few big name targets this summer including Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid and, of course, Henrikh Mkhitaryan who went to Borussia Dortmund.

Competition will be high to sign Willian with Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas a firm fan of the Brazilian. Chelsea could also be in the market for the high profile player.

With Liverpool not having to sell players to raise funds though, it is hoped that they can push through a deal quickly and get the player they want to Anfield on this occasion.

I’m a Liverpool fan. The job at Liverpool fc is too big for b.r. He’s not making any good progress for me. All we are doing is slashing the wage bill. We will not sign willian. Another long season for us liverpool fans

Plz bring Jackson Martinez to lfc prolific goal scorer plus willian plus eriksen plus Toby plus sakho now we have a team to challenge for the top four and game a rightful place at the high table with the elite come on BR ynwa forever

What planet are you from just where is Brendan going to get that sort of transfer budget from. It’s ok to dream just don’t share them on here you look young or stupid

  • Nic Cooper says:

At the moment it seems we are very close to signing Siqueira (Brazilian, Granada Left Back) for 5 million.

After selling Downing and Spearing for a combined 6.5 million our net spend so far is -3.5 million which puts us in profit.

This is what I hope will happen next:

    Out:

CB: Skrtel (6m to Napoli), Coates (3-4m to any team that will have him)
MF: Assaidi (2-3m to any team that will have him)
FW: Borini (5-6m back to a Serie A side)

    IN:

CB: Sakho (8m), Papadopolous (12-13m), Omeruo (loan)
    LB: Siqueira (5m)
MF: Willian (27-28m), Diego Capel (6-7m)
FW: Jackson Martinez (30m) or Yilmaz (20m) (especially if we get rid of Suarez)

With the sales of the above players it should give us at least 50 million or a net spend of 30m (which hopefully isn’t asking too much). We will need to spend at least this amount to compete with Spurs whether they sell Bale or not), as the are looking to add to Soldado, Paulinho and Capoue (very good signings).

Quite a few people believe going in for Ericksen or Alderweild will be good. As good as they are the players I stated are more crucial for us now to immediately fill the areas where we are weak and here is why:

Mahmadou Sakho is not starting at PSG because he is behind players like Thiago Silva in the pecking order but he will add a lot of height, pace and strength to our backline. Together with Agger they will be able to form a strong partnership. Papadopolous in addition to CB can play defensive MF as cover for Lucas, has a high pass completion ratio, is only 21 and has power and that competitive drive, something our team is sorely lacking down the middle since Mascherano left.

Siqueira for 5m would be a steal if we can pull this one off. He was one of the best leftbacks in La Liga last season and at 27 will have experience, add pace and power to our left side where there has been no cover for Enrique for a while. Playing Johnson and Downing there has really stressed our lack of cover there.

Willian, who has been put on the market by Anzhi because they are having financial problems. This player is powerful, can play down the wing or through the middle, create as well as score goals. This player created 85% of Anzhi’s chances last season and could potentially be like a young John Barnes, complimenting Coutinho who will both be a menace to defenders. Coutinho will be our number 10 in the middle of the 4-3-3 with Lucas and Gerrard (Henderson, Allen, Alberto) hanging back. If Coutinho is injured, Gerrard can move up or Willian can move in, allowing another winger or wide fwd to play on the left.

Willian can play left of the 4-3-3 with Suarez/ Sturridge/Aspas filling up or rotating in the other two. Since Downing has left, we only have Sterling and Ibe as out an out wingers so Willian will be the perfect signing. Another bargain signing will be Diego Capel who has always been on the fringe of the Spanish national side is another player who we can pick up on a bargain from Benfica with a supposed cost of 5 million that can be an instant replacement for Downing.

We won’t have anymore funds for a striker unless we sell Suarez but if we do go in for one I hope we can sign someboy as prolific and the only 2 that might possibly be available in that class at the moment are Martinez and Yilmaz. Only problem I can foresee is we already have Sturridge (who is a little injury prone) and Brendan does not seem to like out and out strikers or target men and rather prefers wide fwds that have flexibility, mobility and score goals.

Toby Alderweild is like a cheap man’s Vertonghen and doesn’t start for his nationa team because he is behind Kompany and Vertonghen. I will almost prefer keeping Skrtel although he had a poor season mainy due to Allen’s inability to provide the backline any protection in the absence of Lucas.

Ericksen. Now he will be a luxury player to have. If we get him he would have to take either Gerrard or Coutinho’s place therefore would be great to have but not a necessity in the team right at this moment. It would also force Brendan to admit that buying Allen for the amount he cost was a gross misjudgement. I still rue the fact we didn’t sign Diao last season and Wanyama or Capoue this season. Could very well be our downfall this season.
Let’s pray that Lucas stays fit or that we can convert Henderson into an effective DMF.

    • sammyrex says:

if will can get some them for my belive top4will easy

    • Kim says:

Great analysis but we don’t have as much money to spend on so many players. Realistically:
we will only buy Sakho (8M), Siquiera (6M) and Willian (30 M)

      Out: Borini (6 M), Skrtl ( 10 M)

Los: 28 M, which is reasonable

    • Jake says:

You really think we will go out and sign 8 players in the next 2 weeks!?? We need 3 players, A CB, LB and an attacking player. If we can wrap up some quality players in each of those positions we will be looking good.

  • Nic Cooper says:

Correction: Willian was involved in 75% of the goals. Not 85%…nontheless it is impressive!

  • Daud Kamin (Malaysia) says:

LFC ….must go to sign duo Ericksen and Toby …..

  • Wolex says:

BR should stop fooling the fans, making liverpool a toothless barking dog that can nt bite, meaning a hunter that can nt shot, always targeting and biding 4 player like arsenal without buying them, the likes of aly cissoko and loresor, imagine siquira of granada thinking that that deal has become a done deal the news i read this morning was knocked back by the club, sumtime u will hear close to,closing to and things will nt happen,so BR should rethink and do sumthing sweft.no time

  • don says:

willian will b a very good signing. but it is not enough.. he must b accompagnied with sakho , siquiera to complete the squad… only then we will find our team complete.
i have doubt regarding the combination of lucas ,gerard, allen ,hendo. they are not mobile enough. eriksen is good but in his position we have cou who is just excellent there… alberto seems to be a back and alternative of eriksen..

  • ebri says:

I really agree with you Nic Cooper

  • Idris Bash says:

All liverpool fans, let’s be prayerful, and we will never walk alone !
