Have FSG and Rodgers earned your respect yet?

LFC manager strikerBRENDAN Rodgers was never going to have an easy time of it when he was appointed Liverpool FC manager.

Against the backdrop of another disappointing end to a league campaign and with the King of the Kop being unceremoniously dumped by owners FSG, most Reds fans were anticipating a world-famous name to be appointed as the new man in charge; somebody who’s stature in the game could match that of the club – somebody who’s CV demanded respect.

Although respect should always be earned, without a CV to fall back on when the results failed to meet expectations, Rodgers knew he’d have a lot to do to convince some of the most passionate and knowledgeable supporters in the world.

Once a fairly mundane initial transfer window was offset by the fantastic January signings, positivity began to flow, and an excellent second half to the season had Reds fans licking their lips in anticipation of the new campaign.

The jury is still out on the men who now run this great club, but regardless of your thoughts on FSG, they have to be respected for their handling of the Luis Suarez affair this summer, and the way they treated Arsenal with the contempt they deserved.

Brendan Rodgers may now have also earned some respect, no matter how begrudgingly, guiding the Reds to two victories out of two at the start of this new Premier League season, all without his star striker, but with his signing, Daniel Sturridge, the main protagonist in the Liverpool wins.

Has Rodgers changed your initial views on him and earned any more of your respect?

Respect is a bit of a watch word right now, whether that’s fans giving players and managers more respect or players giving referees more respect, but across all levels of the game, the FA are trying to ensure that bad behaviour is stamped out.

In view of this, the FA has launched a new advert to remind people about the importance of Respect in our national game. The film looks at the potential of ‘corrective’ technology – think ED209 from Robocop – to deal with the problems of raging touchline parents, the loss of referees, foul mouthed players or abusive managers.

The Respect programme was launched in 2008 and although there is much still to do, after five seasons across all levels of football on field discipline has improved, assaults on referees have fallen, 5,000 more match officials have been recruited and the environment of children’s football has improved.

Check out the video below…

Rodgers yes bt fsg neva, they should rodgers enough funds to buy players or they should show the exit door for some oil people to come

    • notfm says:

Grow up money does not grow on trees so to spend it just to show that a manager has the backing of the board would be a total waste of money.

If the right players are available at The right price iam sure he will get the backing but every player has a price. to the selling club and the buying club just a matter of both having similar figures in mind. Willian was not worth the wages or the price tag.

I am a Rafa fan but I am very pleased with the way Rodgers has handled himself with FSG lies on transfers .
FSG are a joke who are trying to build club up with sponsors dollars lower wage bill make us middle table team to sell at some point .
For stevie gerrard this is shame cause he has not long to go should be winning premier league for him simple .
FSG wont go out when we go middle of table they will blame Rodgers .

  • Steven says:

I have to admit I always felt like Rogers was a good fit! I just love a manager who has a philosophy about the way the game should be played and although results weren’t going our way early last year, the players needed time to adapt!
He had the balls to sell Carroll, Downing and Adam for losses because they were not the right players! Of course there will be players he would buy that just don’t work, however, the team is finally playing football!
FSG have to be given some credit as they gave Kenny so much money but got burnt! I know it will take time for them to trust shelling out in excess of 25-30m on anyone due to the Carroll and Downing syndrome!
I believe things will get better and hope we can crack top 4 this year!

HMM YEP GOT MY RESPECT!!! both rogers and fsg the latter has got us out of debt and if you look back a couple of years to the debacle them other two clowns were causing then fsg are a breath of fresh air okay they got burnt with carrol and downing though I thought downing was coming too a bit..retribution was swift and rogers was installed who is gathering pace and showing to be a good manager..in my view the only way is up..fact

    • realist says:

The only way IS up. Rodger and FSG have taken us as low as a giant club like Liverpool can ever get

  • Paul says:

Rogers has got the team playing great football and has brought in some good young talent and so with Rogers time will tell but FSG haven’t gone that extra mile that Daniel Levi has at Spurs, I understand that with Bale going they have money around the lane but we are Liverpool and with that the owners have a responsibility to challenge whole heartedly for the best players, we seem to be losing out on the big signings. Rogers obviously plays a big part in identifying these players but it’s the owners, board and Ayers job to make sure they end up Liverpool players, this hasn’t been the case and until this happens they shouldn’t win the respect of any good Liverpool fan, respect is to be earned and respect isn’t earned easy at Liverpool FC.

  • Jas says:

Apart from his obligatory sound bites I applaude what Rodgers is trying to do at Liverpool, much of which is done with his hands tied behind his back.
FSG on the other hand I’m not so sure. The balancing the books spiel has worn thin and as for the handling of the Suarez situation,he’l be gone next season so wether it’s this year or next theyr still going to bank the money for him. And the reason he’l be gone is that lack of CL football that we’l miss out on because theyv failed to back the manager when it came to the crunch.

  • Tier says:

Above all else, Brendan Rodgers seems like a genuine, likeable guy – who said from the very start that everyone, on a human level should be treated fairly and with respect. There is no doubt in my mind that he is an inspiration to the players and that his genuine belief and philosophy on life is rubbing off on those around him. I’m proud he is our manager.
FSG are still finding their feet and trying to go about things the right way imo. They are a world away from our previous owners and are trying to find a balancf between splashing cash and getting the balance sheets / business side correct.
Compared to only a few years ago when we were protesting on the streets to try our best to keep the club alive, things are a whole lot better. As Rafa would say “believe”.

  • Graham says:

you guys commenting are missing the point over fsg. they didnt cause us to be so far off were we wanna be. we’ve been dropping off long before anyone had even heard of NESV (if you dont know who they are, it just shows you shouldnt be talking). hell, even before hicks and gillete arrived we were drifting.

the problem has been that since before moores realised we had to be sold to achieve anything, we’ve had no direction. no one leading the buisness of the club in a consistent, well thought out plan of how we need to progress. we racked up loads of useless over payed players who drained our small resources further, we changed from rafa’s tactics to roys lack, and signed garbage on gigantic wages…cole, konchesky and poulsen.

to buy people we need money, fsg have had to waste *loads getting rid of the * we’d accumulated, because its cheaper than paying them for the entirety of their contracts. they also dropped more than just the one ball by appointing comolli, and they bowed to fan pressure with kenny. then wasted milions on more * players cos they didnt have a clue.

to progress we needed rid of all expensive low quality players, so we could afford to buy anyone else. we also need to change our reputation that we cultivated over years of woeful transfer dealings (and a few good ones along the way) that we were a soft touch who would always pay more to get a bid accepted.

so they wouldnt pay for dempsey…seems smart now. they could maybe have offered mkhitryan and will.i.an more (as if theyd have joined us given other clubs interested), but we need to be strong negotiatiors on every deal, so other clubs no they cant take advantage. we will need to walk away from a lot of deals, but in the long run if we can develop on the pitch, which rodgers has us doing nicely, then we can negotiate for the better talent without getting ripped off, just because we’re liverpool, and liverpool love wasting money.

they told arseanal to F off about suarez, time will tell if they can stick to their word on that whole mess though. they seem willing to spend a decent wedge on a player, assuming they dont think their being overcharged, and they are bringing in massive revenues to the club that we hadnt even considered before they arrived.

im no fsg lover yet, but i think they may be turning the corner, and i think the squad is also ready to do something special. so FFS stop acting like whiney little B*. think about the whole picture of our club, consider my opinion (feel free to disagree, as long as you consider), do some reserach into our ludicrous spending over the years, not just transfer fee’s, but wages aswell. look at what fsg bought, there was a reason we were so cheap compared to the values of some of the champs league current elite. we’ve been shook for years, but were getting our second wind right now. you just have to be patient.

    • TaintlessRed says:

There’s a lot of truth in what you say Graham. Too many forget that we were near administration! We probably wouldn’t be in this mess if Moores and Parry had sold to DIC but no one else even tried to oust H & G other than FSG. Those were the darkest days. FSG have made mistakes primarily because of a lack of football knowledge. Commolli & Kenny signings were their fault not FSG, and I for one was happy we didn’t sign Dempsey or Siguurdson. 2 average players. Rodgers wasted his first summers opportunity by going for mediocrity. It took him 6 months to realise LFC require a much higher standard of player than Joe Allen.

  • ian says:

FSG has spent nothink on players,we have had to sell to buy.. brendon is doing all he can if they cannot back are manager they should sell, were not asking for money to be thrown about, were asking for money for the players(2) quality players to be brought in..were asking for what brendon needs…so fsg your turn to back your talk.. asp..aand ayres should be sacked..

  • tinleg says:

Rogers talks too much, and because he’s not always absolutely clear in what he says, some players will find it hard to trust him.

    • Tom says:

the players are not as stupid as you are, dumbo.

yes, he talks but he passes the messages to the players and they do get the pictures.

learn to use what we call “brain” before coming online to write!

      • realist says:

        Ha ha ha ha

What a child little ‘tommy’ is . Practice what you preach and try to find your brain ….or actually it looks like your braindead .

  • papers says:

Rodgers had my respect from the start and FSG are a breath of fresh air compared to the previous owners. FSG spent big on transfer targets when Dalglish was manager and look what we got for it. Coutinho, Sturridge, Aspas and Alberto combined all cost less than Carroll and, with the exception of Alberto who hasn’t featured much, have been far more effective. Anyone who bemoans the lack of big money signings should perhaps go and support free spending teams like Chelsea.

  • Liam says:

No. I think less of Rodgers every time the buffoon opens his mouth.
And FSG ? Dont make me laugh. Hicks and Gillett mark 2 is what tgey are

    • Jammo says:

I genuinely feel sorry for you mate (if you’re not a troll). You mustn’t have enjoyed following LFC for quite a few years now..? Seriously, maybe it’s not for you..?

      • kemlynroadite says:

Cop on jammo lad . Your being idiotic

        • Jammo says:

You cop on lad. Why the need for Bafoon comments..? And labelling FSG the same as the previous cancers is crap. What if the planning permission goes through and the main stand gets it rebuild next yr..? Everyone just wants it black and white, build a stadium, buy the likes of Willian for 30 mill..!!!

        • Tom says:

Kemlyn, you on the other hand, is more than idiotic. another definition of the word: “STUPID”, you truly are

  • stevie says:

Agree with that. If your academy have good players coming through and your scouting network is excellent there is no reason why we can’t be competitive against the financial cheats like chelsea and citeh

  • kemlynroadite says:

FSG are not serious and we all know it.

The true test of their intentions is the stadium, which Ian Ayre stated in the Echo on 7th June would involve a planning submission before “next season” without stating if that would be 2013-14 or 2014-15.

Lets go down Recent Memory Lane

    Liverpool Echo 20th October 2012

Managing director Ian Ayre wouldn’t be drawn publicly on what the Reds plan to do to Anfield, what the new capacity will be, how much it will cost and when they hope that the redevelopment of the club’s home of 120 years will start. “They are not questions for today,” insisted Ayre. “That will only come when we’ve got certainty.”

Liverpool Echo 17th January 2013 “LIVERPOOL FC’S £150million project to redevelop Anfield remains on track with the club hoping to submit a planning application in the spring.”

Ian Ayre 17th January 2013 “Certainly in terms of milestones that we set ourselves, we are on track. We’re pleased with the way we’re heading and there’s no reason to feel anything other than optimistic.”

Ian Ayre 4th March 2013 “We have set a milestone in the coming months to achieve our objectives in terms of acquiring the properties. That’s the next milestone and I am pleased to say I feel we are on track with that. “Thereafter we go into perhaps a slightly more structured timeline where we go for planning and all of the things that flow from that to deliver construction. We are absolutely oncourse”

On the 17th January we were on track for spring 2013 planning submission. Then by March it had slipped to the start of an unspecified :next season” Nothing so far. Usually when something like this is going on some plans leak out. Nobody has seen anything. What more evidence do we need?

If it is due to start in 2014 then it is already late as planning permission will take months.

In terms of on the pitch. What if Coutinho and Sturridge had not worked out, where would be now?

The squad if heavily reduced and the sheep amongst you state “well the wage bill needed to come down”

No, Coventry City’s wage bill needs to come down, so does QPRs, not Liverpool’s with 40 to 50 million ADDITIONAL Sky money and a season ticket waiting list the length of Scotty Road. And a second kit in 12 months.

Management? Got to love Brendan as a man but a club of this stature needs an Ancelotti, Hiddink, Benitez, Scolari type. Not a rookie. At the time of his appointment he was 39. He is still learning the ropes.

Wake up, smell the Coffee, and hope SOS have the energy for another dust up with the Yanks. Its coming.

“We can compete with anybody” Tom Werner. Ha ha ha. How would he know, he is never at the game.

    • fred says:

      Excellent and true comment kemlyn

    • Tom says:

you’re just a moron. why don’t you get out to Middle East or Russia and get us a sugar daddy?? Instead of sitting behind your mom’s computer and spilling out rubbish from your dead brain

      • realist says:

Aaahhhh , it’s the little troll no sheep hiding under a different name

        • no sheep says:

realist unlike your self i dont post under different names. hows heskeys retirement going by the way. you might want to look up the meaning of the word troll.
          pot kettle.
          the end

    • Pierre levert says:

Kemlyn Roadite, What a superb post, even if you had just listed the Ian Ayre quotations, it tells it all. It’s all PR , or bullshirt. Can’t believe we had Peter Robinson, but have now ended up with this Ayre character.

    • no sheep says:

why is he never at the games?
cause of keyboard warriors like yourself destroying the name of the club and proper fans.
sending death threats to our owners.
why dont you have a look at how much profit liverpool made last season, before you start talking crap. go on they have to publish the accounts every year

  • fred says:

Dont trust BR at all , he is not a good manager and probably never will be . He is only there because fenways need a yes man to do what he is told and continually bullsh!t us fans

  • realist says:

2 wins v average teams and everything is ok ? Errrrr NO.

Rodgers is not good enough for LFC and how can any true Liverpool fan defend Fsg? Disgraceful if you do

  • Gerry says:

Most fans don’t trust Brenda , and neither does FSG – hence the transfer committee introduced after he wasted our money on dross last summer
I was a believer in FSG , but with the lack of funds , the stadium debacle and the lack of ambitions , I am having serious concerns that we may have been tricked again

  • Ian says:

FSG are here for the cash , they are every little bit as bad as H&G . We won’t ever be a top club until they go. FSG out .

  • Chris Ursum says:

Dont respect BR at all . How can we trust a man who never tells truth and is the puppet of the owners ?
