Liverpool Player Ratings v Man City

|

Midfield

Steven Gerrard – Another underwhelming display from the captain. A couple of nice cross-field passes aside, the game largely passed him by and that’s a big worry, considering the amount of goals Liverpool have shipped in the first two games. Passing at a high rate, as expected, but defensive and positioning side of game sorely lacking. Much improvement needed or the inevitable calls to be dropped will just get louder. Rating – 5

Joe Allen – Another mature, composed display from Allen as he continues to build on his cameos at the end of last season. May be the casualty against Spurs but, if so, it would be unfair. Rating – 7

Jordan Henderson – The most subdued we’ve seen Jordan in some time. There was none of the familiar verve and energy we’ve come to expect and lacked direction when he got forward (although, many of his teammates did also). Rating – 6

Who was that plonker on here defending the pony Glen Johnson?

Gerrard should be a 30 minute impact sub these days. He is no defensive midfield player that’s for sure. Rodgers seems unable to see the obvious, either that or he’s too weak to drop him.
