Goalkeeper/Defence
Simon Mignolet – What a turnaround. Three months ago and there wasn’t a Liverpool fan that wouldn’t have seen the back of him without any regret. Three months on and he’s the current on-form goalkeeper in the Premier League, and leading the likes of De Gea and Courtois, in terms of clean sheets. There’s a long way to go, and he needs to keep this up all season to retain his place next season but for now he’s redeemed his season enough to have earned his current rating. Some may have him rated higher, at present, but try to recall his form in the first 5 months of the season to draw a contrast. Rating – 6.5/10
Brad Jones – The problem with Jones isn’t that he’s a particularly bad keeper, not at all. It’s simply that he excels at nothing. He is the archetypal ‘average’ goalkeeper. At once, unlikely to lose you games with clangers but won’t make the match-winning save either. For that reason, it’d be rather unfair to give him anything else for those forgettable 5 games he’s played this season. Rating 5/10
