Is Sterling’s future away from Liverpool?

Sterling has reportedly rejected a new contract but Rodgers remains calm

It’s something that Liverpool fans didn’t really want to consider but it appears that Raheem Sterling may well be playing his football elsewhere next season, as he – and his representatives – have again rejected an improved contract offer from the club, believed to be in the region of £100,000 a week.

It was reported late 2014 that Sterling had turned down an offer of around £80,000 a week, so the claims that the club have upped the offer and again had it turned down is worrying indeed.

Sterling himself has yet to speak on the subject recently but Brendan Rodgers doesn’t appear too fazed on the issue. Speaking to journalists at his pre-Swansea press conference (and reported by Liverpoolfc.com), Rodgers said: “There’s nothing new to report on it. I am quite relaxed about Raheem’s situation – he’s not going anywhere in a hurry. He has still got this year and another couple of years to go on his contract.

“I think it’s quite obvious if you look at Raheem’s situation – anyone who has the bests interests of Raheem will see that Liverpool Football Club at this stage for him is the best option for his career.

“He’s just turned 20 in December and he’s made 118 appearances in that time, which is a remarkable amount for a club of this size for a young player to be given that opportunity.

“He’s made it clear himself he loves being here and for any young player, I think he was quoted as saying, this is the best place to develop.

“That makes me quite relaxed about the situation. I am sure the club and his representatives will find the solution for that.

“We have the track record here of developing talents, bringing them through and giving them the opportunity. There’ll be more of those players like Raheem that will get the opportunity.”

Rodgers views on the situation would seem to be in opposition to this morning’s reports, and the words of Sterling previously but until a new contract is signed, the rumours won’t go away.

Should the claims of these reports be true, should Liverpool pull out all the stops for Sterling and offer him what he wants, or should the club remain true to the ‘no player is bigger than the club’ belief and not give in to his agents demands? Let us know your thoughts below.

Sell his ungrateful, greedy little ass! He has no affection or loyalty toward lfc even though they made him the player he is! Let him go and splinter his arse on the bench at real or bayern or chavski because he’s not good enough to play for them yet!
He obviously thinks he’s world class already, well you’re NOT! Arrogant little twonk!

If the offer’s not enough for him let him go at the end of curent contract. No player is bigger than the club.

  • Colin says:

i’d take any large fee for him – preferably from abroad. His game is simply not consistent enough – commentators and the media seem to love him, but as a season ticket holder, I am sick of seeing poor control and poor finishing week after week….plus young Jordan Ibe is a much more rounded and exciting player.

The guy could`nt shoot through a wet paper bag and thinks he is better than Messi and Maradonna. Put him in taxi to John Lennon Airport with a one way ticket out of Liverpool.

    He should leave.
Most of his peers abroad are better off him.
    He is inconsistent.
Just a flash in his pan.
He will regret leaving for sure.
Let him go and that goes his career in a pan.

No player is bigger than our club, he wants 160k a week like Odergard? fuck off to RM then and warm their bench, he has not been to his best recently anyway.
Sell his greedy ass for a large fee and bring in depay/Felipe Anderson/Mkhitaryan
