Ings appears Anfield bound, according to reprots on Sunday

Despite report of Danny Ings signing for Liverpool going back as far as January, it’s always seemed like one of those rumours that was more likely to drag on endlessly, than actually reach a conclusion.

But reports last night claim that the Reds will this week open talks with the striker who’s contract with Burnley is due to end this summer, ahead of a move that will be completed on July 1st.

The story which has done the rounds, was again reported last night by the Liverpool ECHO, who report that the club will look to bring Ings in for a small fee of around £4 million, which will soon be decided by tribunal.

There was late interest from Tottenham (but isn’t there always?) who were looking to snatch another player from under the club’s noses, but Ings has apparently had his heart set on a move to Anfield since the winter window.

The Burnley man scored 11 goals in his debut season for the relegated side and, despite his club going down, his displays have impressed a lot of people. The 22 year old is still only learning his trade though, so would be unlikely to be considered a major acquisition.

Should Liverpool be bringing Ings in, or are the club, once again, setting sights too low? Let us know your thoughts below.

It may not be a big acquisition, but a smart one. Ings is a work horse compared to Lambert and Balotelli who always looked lazy and slow. If he scored 11 for a relegated team, which is more than any Liverpool fwd, what could he do with good midfielders feeding him balls into the box? If he is partnered up with another strong striker he will fight for every opportunity. A smart buy…
