Benteke looks all but destined for Liverpool this year

When Liverpool show interest in a player, it generally doesn’t matter who they are, you can always bank of one thing: before too long Tottenham will get involved and hang about like a bad smell.

Thus it ever was, thus it always will be and the pursuit of Christian Benteke has proven no different (much like the transfer of Ings) with the London club quickly following Liverpool’s interest.

However, Benteke has now made it clear that if he is to leave his club this summer, he’s only interested in a move to Anfield. At least that’s according to the press over the past 24 hours.

Benteke has long been linked with a move to Liverpool but this summer is likely to be the transfer window that that actually happens, with the big Belgian earmarked as the ideal striker to complement the Reds’ current squad and style of play, despite what many fans and pundits seem to believe.

One important thing to note however, is that club legend Robbie Fowler (a man who knows a thing or two about scoring goals in a Liverpool shirt) believes Benteke would be the ideal player for Liverpool in an area that has been a big problem since Luis Suarez left last year.

Fowler told the Liverpool ECHO: “The striker issue is a big thing.

“We didn’t have anyone who scored 10 Premier League goals last year and I can’t remember the last time that happened at Liverpool.

“It’s important we get a proven goalscorer and of the names being bandied about I’d go for Benteke. I think he’s excellent.

“I know there are other top strikers out there and probably more prolific scorers. But in terms of all-round play – strength, speed, physicality, finishing – I think Benteke could be the main man for Liverpool.”

Do you agree with Robbie’s opinion of the striker? Let us know your thoughts below.

I agree with Mr Fowler, things will come to fruition sooner than later, you mustn’t forget, the Sterling situation still hasn’t been resolved and when it is, the funds will be there to replace the rebel and good riddance, “I say” we have made some very serious acquisitions this per season and I can’t wait for new campaign to commence, with a bit of look we can get off to a good start, the confidence will grow and I always believe it’s 11 against 11.

I don’t see a quote saying he only wants Liverpool.
In fact he has stated that he wants Champions League football.

if we pay 32.5 m for benteke which looks increasingly like we will then I can see people laughing at us next season. the point is when you have 30 odd million quid to spend you spend it on a serious player you do not buy a striker from villa! remember when we got that fella from newcastle how did that end up? This is classic liverpool we never learn! we are about to overpay on a player who is never going to fit the bill who could not possibly handle the pressure of playing for lfc

Benteke is a good striker but to be realistic i don’t i knw if he can cope with the pace of liverpool football, preferably gozalo higuain is much better option.

  • Chris says:

  • Billious says:

It was from Newcastle that Liverpool bought Andy Carroll with 35million pounds and what happened last? Now Aston villa and Benteke for 32.5million.well, he’s a good player ( striker) physically strong, scoring Wise.Let Liverpool for for him fast before Tottenham grab him as Chelsea did to Liverpool against Mohammed Salah

if we buy benteke for that much 32mil i would seriously question brendan we are not a team that cross the ball into the box which is primarily bentekes game fowler talks about his pace lol is the fa cup final he couldnt out run mertersaker and we all knw how slow he is why dont fsg and brendan spend the sterling money on a truly quality player the boy from france laczette or higuain everyone knows that makes more sense than benteke!!!!

  • Chukwujekwu freedman says:

Benteke from all indications is the right man to take the space and push liverpool to best position, loosing him to any club will result to regret

  • day says:

We need a pacey striker (carnt spell his name plays as a winger for bormond abanayak)or Martinez who plays for ROMA he would be a better buy we need a good centre midfield as well if Henderson gets injured don’t fancy Joe Allen.lets stay positive for the new season aye get behind the boys that’s whot we really need

  • Mr kenny says:

I will be very mad if lfc spend 32m on benteke, he those not what even 20m… Is time we go for quality and experience attacker, hw much did chelsea spent on Costa, i get very angry to see lfc legend Fowler say is what we need.

  • EVANS says:

I tink benteke is a gud singing..BT LIVERPOOL nid anoda quality striker

  • BigC says:

It obvious that this is paper talk. I see Benny completing another season at the Villa. Villa however have become a selling club over past 6 years. Like other clubs they can sell quality and replace with to put it politely less quality. If Benny stays and Villa don’t buy a quality goal scorer to play along side him, he’s wasted. Long and the short of it, he won’t be turning up in Liverpool any time soon.

  • Balonde Musa says:

wiz Roger even if we sign Bentek, Mess & Ronald no future coz Roger Z de problem

  • Gerard says:

Benteke will be an upgrade for flops like Ballotelli, Lambert, Borelli…

  • Cherop Abednego says:

I have been left always in surprises seeing the FSG Brendan making Benteke their top striker in this market. We need big names at the club who can make the defenders to wiggle.Take a look at R.Firmino who costed us £30million and Benteke who is to cost us £32million…who will bring shakes to the opposition. It is better to spend more on quality players.i think this is how our transfer council do thinks taking our selfs when they signed Luis Suarez and Andy Carrol.Who made a big impact because i know some one may say the price tagged on Benteke show who he is.No!

  • lukwagomuhammed says:

liverpool’s problem is not strikers or players at the moment liverpool needs a proven couch to do the job right so brandon is adding nothing to the club we need a profiled couch now
