Reports on Saturday morning claimed that Liverpool had ‘agreed a deal in principle’ to sign Brazil star, Alexandre Pato. The former AC Milan man is currently plying his trade back in his homeland with Corinthians, although is currently out on loan at Sao Paulo.

The club president, Roberto de Andrade, is quoted as saying that the club and Liverpool had agreed a deal of around £14 million for the 26 year old.

Pato was initially a big success at Milan, scoring 67 goals in 125 games. However, things went a little awry over the next couple of years before the forward moved back to Brazil.

The international striker has enjoyed further success with both Corinthians and Sao Paulo, scoring 55 goals since 2013 but is now reportedly looking to move back to Europe again.

Despite several websites and publications carrying the club president’s quotes though, de Andrade has since come out to deny that any deal is in place. Saying that Liverpool have not even submitted any acceptable bids.

He told SporTV on Sunday: “Corinthians have received nothing. Nothing concrete has arrived.”

There have obviously been no confirmations or denials from LFC either and it’s likely that de Andrade is simply trying to drum up business for a player many had probably forgotten about.

What is certain though, is that Pato has shone in European football before and could no doubt do so again. Whether Jurgen Klopp would feel he’d fit his vision for Liverpool though, remains to be seen. First of all, LFC and Corinthians will have to decide whether there is a deal in place or a bid has been made at all.

Could Pato be a success at Anfield, or should Liverpool be setting their sights higher?
