The 22 year old Welsh goalie was in great form

GK/Defence

Danny Ward – A brilliant debut. Solid, dependable, strong in the air and fast distribution. His handling was also confident and he communicated well with his defence. Only blip was a late consolation that took away his first clean sheet in a red shirt. Rating – 7.5

Connor Randall – Another decent display from Randall, but nothing to overly concern Nathaniel Clyne. Doesn’t offer as much in the opposition half but solid enough at the back. The fact he was chosen ahead of Flanagan did raise a few eyebrows though. Rating – 6.5

Lucas Leiva – The 29 year old always looks calm and composed, so transferring those qualities to centre back is a real bonus. He looked good at the heart of the defence and he and Toure’s experience really showed. Rating – 7

Kolo Toure – Was unfortunate to go off, after what had been a good 60-odd minutes but is clearly enjoying the final few games of his Liverpool career, and rightly so. Hurry back Kolo. Rating – 7

Brad Smith – Not as impressive as in his cup appearances, the occasion seemed to get the better of Smith early on. But he grew into the second half and looks a decent backup for Alberto Moreno. Rating – 7
