Pescara president Daniele Sebastiani has ruled his club out of making any bid for Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli.

Talking on Sportmediaset Television (quotes via the Corriere Dello Sport newspaper), Sebastiani said he didn’t believe it would be in the player or the club’s best interest for any move to take place. He feels it would be a publicity stunt rather than a sensible transfer for the club:

“I know that his is the name that would get the most attention. [But] Mario is a great player and I think that the last thing he would do would be to come and play at Pescara or Crotone. We don’t need to buy figurines just to make somebody happy. We’re working behind the scenes on finding players with the right profile for Pescara. We’re running our own transfer market and if we want to do anything, we need to be patient.”

One of the biggest stumbling blocks to any move will be Balotelli’s sizeable wages, and Sebastiani was no doubt suggesting that FC Crotone’s president Raffaele Vrenna (who declared his interest in Balotelli) knew full well that his club couldn’t afford his salary, and that Pescara are in the same boat.

Balotelli has been linked with a move to Besiktas in recent weeks but although the Turkish champions were believed to be interested in the Italian international replacing Mario Gomez as their number one striker, Balotelli himself was not keen on a move to Turkey and wants to play in one of Europe’s biggest leagues, either in England, Spain or Italy.
