It just didn’t work for Can in the more central role as we sorely missed Jordan Henderson’s presence.
The German international lacks the mobility and passing range of our skipper and that told as he found himself off the pace for much of the game. It’s easy to forget he’s still in his early-20’s and he looked decent in this role in the closing stages against City, but he does need to start putting in more consistent performances if he wants to become a star for us in the coming years. This performance demonstrated starkly he has plenty still to do to.
