The Reds came back down to Earth yesterday afternoon with a bump as we followed up our win over Manchester City with a poor 2-2 draw at Sunderland.

At first things looked like they were going to go rather swimmingly with the Reds going one up through Daniel Sturridge’s effort but the die was cast soon after that as Jermain Defoe equalised through a penalty.

From there the Reds looked quite out of energy though they weren’t helped by a Vito Mannone-inspired Black Cats side, sapping away at their efforts throughout the game.

Another goal came, eventually, thanks to Sadio Mane’s strike but he quickly went from hero to villain as another penalty, thanks to the AFCON bound winger’s intervention, was awarded and converted for 2-2 with minutes to go.

And, try as they might, the Reds succumbed to drop points – ones that could be exploited by Chelsea on Wednesday.

Plenty to learn from this one, then, and here are the three things we picked up most…
