Rangers have only themselves to blame if, as now seems likely, they miss out on the loan signing of Liverpool forward Harry Wilson.

Speculation was rife last week that the Wales international only needed to be paraded in a Gers shirt to confirm his arrival as a marquee signing personally rubberstamped by Steven Gerrard.

The Scottish Sun reported Rangers were confident of signing Wilson on a one-year loan by Friday of this week after talks had reached an advanced stage.

Either someone massively jumped the gun, or the Wilson camp has had a significant U-turn.

Football Insider claim the Liverpool wide boy has rejected the chance of a move to Ibrox as they have twice snubbed the chance to sign him in the past.

Instead, it appears he is keen to continue his impressive progress at a Championship club, with interest from eight of them giving him the kind of choice only afforded to the best young players.

Wilson demonstrated during his spell at Hull in the second half of last season he is special, hitting the ground running with seven goals and four assists from just 13 matches.

Little wonder Gerrard has been keen to take him to Rangers and offer him the right flank and the platform to take his game to a new level in front of one of British football’s most passionate audiences.

That now appears unlikely, and the Light Blues have only themselves to blame.

This is a transfer hammer blow all of their own making.
