Liverpool have joined the hunt to sign Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims in its print edition (Sunday 20th May, Page 66) that the Reds are set to battle West Ham for his signature this summer.

It is understood that the Burnley shot-stopper held showdown talks with manager Sean Dyche about his future and is now ready to quite Turf Moor.

The report details that Liverpool are in the £10million race for the 32-year-old and he would be a much cheaper alternative than Stoke City’s Jack Butland.

Good move for Liverpool?

Heaton may only have a 6ft 1in, but he is a colossus when dominating his penalty area and has proven to be a top quality Premier League goalkeeper.

Liverpool should definitely offload Simon Mignolet in the summer and will need a new number two option to challenge Loris Karius, or alternatively the latter could become an understudy if they sign a world-class goalkeeper such as Jan Oblak.

Jurgen Klopp needs to work out his problem in goal, but there is no doubting that Heaton would be good value for money at just £10million.

He was at one point in pole position for the England number one jersey, but an injury means he is just on standby for the 2018 World Cup and has seen teammate Nick Pope overtake him in the pecking order at Burnley.

Likely to happen?

Heaton wants to leave Burnley as he will not take being a number two option, which is the sole reason why a move to West Ham seems far more likely than a switch to Anfield right now.
