Liverpool will have a busy summer transfer window ahead of them after the Champions League final and there is a real belief they can challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title next season if they play their cards right.

It is absolutely vital that the Reds have a competitive squad going into next year and there are certain positions that need strengthening.

Andrew Robertson is now the undisputed first-choice left-back after his colossal impact in his first season at Anfield, but his understudy Alberto Moreno needs to be binned.

Liverpool’s full-backs are absolutely crucial in the way manager Jurgen Klopp sets up his team and unfortunately he can’t trust Moreno.

The 25-year-old has mainly endured a torrid time during his four-year spell at Anfield and become a real target for the club’s boo-boys.

He has been guilty of making numerous silly mistakes and looks to be defensively short when it comes to the top level.

The left-sided flyer is renowned for his blistering speed and can support the attack well, but the Reds could find so much better out there to compete with Robertson for a starting XI position.

Moreno was a Klopp outcast last season and even watched make-shift defender James Milner overtake him in the pecking order.

He did enjoy a mini renaissance this season where he was a regular starter in the first half of the campaign, but an injury halted his progress and he hasn’t been able to get close to Robertson since his return.

It feels like he is now back at square one and it’s hard to envisage him having a huge impact at Liverpool in years to come.
