Liverpool are reportedly planning a raid to sign legendary Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon – and the club’s supporters have given a thumbs up on a potential swoop.

The Sun reports that the Reds want to try convince the 40-year-old to join Anfield in the summer when hie contract expires with the Italian giants.

It is understood that the Merseyside club are in pole position to land him ahead of Manchester City if he doesn’t retire after impressing in the Champions League this season.

Buffon is a 6ft 3in goalkeeper that has enjoyed a thrilling 17-year stint with Juventus and been a serial winner during that time, winning nine Italian top-flight titles and also a World Cup with his nation.

The Italian veteran has still played a key role this season for the Serie A outfit, keeping 17 clean sheets in 33 appearances across all competitions.

Liverpool fans on social media have rallied behind the reported interest and have claimed they would love to see Buffon next season.

There has been a suggestion he would be an excellent mentor to current number one Loris Karius and would be able to pass on all his knowledge.
