If there was one area of the pitch where Liverpool do not need strengthening, it is in midfield.

Jurgen Klopp has a wealth of world-class options to choose from in that position, with Naby Keita, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Gini Wijnaldum, and the injured Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the squad.

The Reds also have players like Xherdan Shaqiri and Adam Lallana who can occupy central positions, and you would therefore be hard-pressed to find a more stocked midfield in English football.

That being said, teams chasing titles can always improve, and there looks to be an opportunity that the Reds cannot pass up coming their way next summer.

As reported by the Mirror, Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey is set to leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season after contract talks broke down.

It is said there is now no offer on the table for the 27-year-old, who is keen to remain at the Emirates, with teams such as Manchester United and Chelsea now on red alert.

Michael Edwards must now hijack this hunt and put Liverpool in position to snap up Ramsey on a breathtaking free transfer next summer.

The Wales international is a true box-to-box midfielder and for all Liverpool’s riches in midfield, there is no player quite like him in the squad at the moment.

Ramsey has a knack of popping up with important goals – he has scored the winner in two of Arsenal’s three recent FA Cup wins – and Liverpool also badly need players who step up in the big games.

Signing Ramsey for a fee would make sense for Liverpool, but the chance to snap him up on a free deal is one that the club simply cannot afford to pass up.

Bringing in a box-to-box midfielder like him could be a move which really cements Liverpool’s place at the top table of English and European football, and Klopp must now put the wheels in motion to make this happen.
