Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita has suffered a thigh injury while on international duty with Guinea, according to Guinean journalist Amadou Makadji.

The Foot224 reporter said via his personal Twitter account, saying: “It’s confirmed! Thigh injury for Naby Keita. He is replaced by Seydouba Soumah.”

Keita went down clutching his thigh during the first half of Guinea’s encounter with Rwanda today (Tuesday), throwing his involvement against Huddersfield in the Premier League on Saturday into doubt.

The news is the latest in a succession of injury-reated headaches for Jurgen Klopp, with James Milner currently sidelined and Sadio Mane also suffering an injury on international duty.

OPINION

This is all starting to add up for Liverpool, isn’t it? Keita, on a reported £120k/wk contract at Anfield [Source: Spotrac], has yet to really set the Reds midfield alight since his mega money move for RB Leipzig this summer and this setback will be massively disappointing for him. Milner’s status is uncertain at the moment, meaning Keita would likely have been in line for increased game time with Klopp’s side. There is yet to be an update on the extent of the setback, but for the 23-year-old to miss an extended period of time would be a disaster for the club and the player. Keita needs to find his feet on Merseyside but that may be something that won’t happen for a while after this injury. Klopp will be hugely frustrated with the amount of injuries his players have sustained in recent weeks, and he’ll be eager for his squad to get back from international duty as soon as possible.
