Some Liverpool fans took to Twitter in order to urge their club to sell defender Alberto Moreno amid reported interest from European giants Barcelona.

Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo reported that Barca were planning on opening talks over potential signing the Reds’ 26-year-old  in the coming days as they want to add a left-back to their squad in January.

Mundo Deportivo claimed that the La Liga side were going to discuss a low-cost deal with Jurgen Klopp’s side regarding Moreno as they believed he was capable of providing current first-choice Jordi Alba with competition.

Upon hearing the news a section of Reds fans urged their club to bin the left-back in January and sell him to Barcelona, with one even claiming they’d buy his plane ticket.

OPINION

Mundo Deportivo’s track record with transfer stories isn’t the best and it’s hard to believe that Barcelona would even consider Moreno a viable option. The 26-year-old left-back has only dazzled in spells at Anfield and is not even considered the first-choice option at the club currently. It’s no surprise that several Reds supporters sprung to life upon hearing the news to wave him goodbye and urge the club to sell him as if it is true, then Barcelona may soon see sense. While it may seem harsh for fans to quickly wish for a player to depart, Moreno has been at the club surprisingly long considering his catalogue of errors. The Spanish left-back has cost his side valuable points at times and with Klopp trying to end the Reds’ wait for a trophy this season, then it’s hard to see how Moreno features in those plans. The 26-year-old did feature against Chelsea in the League Cup recently and struggled to say the least.
