Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno is seemingly destined for the Anfield exit door when his contract expires this summer, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claims that the Reds are resigned to losing the Spaniard, who is on £40,000-per-week at the club [Source: Spotrac], with the Mirror crediting Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp with a long term interest in Leicester City left back Ben Chilwell.

The 21-year-old has emerged as a first team regular for the Foxes this season and has been rewarded with a trio of England caps in recent months, although he’s reportedly only on £20k-a-week.

Chilwell has shown himself to be an incredibly well-rounded player, similar to Liverpool’s own first choice left back Andy Robertson, capable of defending and attacking equally successfully.

His youth gives him the advantage of having room to improve. He is not the finished product yet, indeed he is only going to get better in the coming years. The fact that he is so good at just 21 years of age is a credit to him and shows what a spectacular talent the Leicester man is.

He really would be the perfect replacement for Moreno, particularly so because he is, in fact, a better player than the Spaniard. He wouldn’t come cheap, whereas Moreno will be leaving on a free this summer, but the Reds have shown that they are unafraid of opening the chequebook when it’s required.

Pairing Roberton with Chilwell would bring out the best in both men. Having the two young full backs together would only push them to improve their own performances in order to keep the other out of the starting eleven.

It would give Klopp a situation similar to Tottenham’s in recent years where they have had Danny Rose and Ben Davies competing for a starting spot on the left hand side of the defence.

Having a decent full back like Moreno leave for nothing isn’t ideal, but Liverpool can turn that negative into a positive with a summer move for Chilwell – giving themselves the finest left back duo in the Premier League.
