Respected Liverpool journalist Ian Doyle has claimed that Nathaniel Clyne, Dominic Solanke and Divock Origi could all leave the club in January.

The trio have made a combined two first team appearances this season, and as such their Anfield careers are not expected to continue for much longer.

“Who could leave? Difficult one,” Doyle told the Liverpool Echo. “There may by then [January] be players in need of first team action, so if Nathaniel Clyne, Dominic Solanke or Divock Origi go – even only on loan – it wouldn’t be the biggest shock.

“Alberto Moreno and Daniel Sturridge are approaching the end of their contract but I’d imagine Liverpool might want to keep hold of them until the end of the season at least instead of cashing in on what would be a minimal fee.”

OPINION

The time has probably come for all three of these players to leave the Reds. Solanke, at 21 years of age, might still have a long term future at Anfield, but he surely needs a loan move away to find his feet at least. Origi has had a few chances on Merseyside and has shown that he simply cannot cut the mustard for a club of this size. Clyne, on the other hand, has simply been the victim of bad injury problems and has lost his place to young sensation Trent Alexander-Arnold as a result. Joe Gomez can also play at right back so it doesn’t appear as if the former Southampton man’s first team prospects are very good. None of them are featuring much for the club this campaign so it would make sense to move them on and make a bit of money, why not? It’s clear that Origi and Clyne, in particular, have no future at Liverpool so offload them and give them a chance to play first team football somewhere else.
