Liverpool are not interested in making a move for Barcelona attacker Ousmane Dembele in January, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper claims that, despite reports to the contrary from the Sun on Wednesday, the Reds are not looking to make a club record move for the France international.

In fact, the Echo claims that manager Jurgen Klopp has no intention of adding to his squad in any capacity in the winter transfer window.

The German believes that his squad is already capable of mourning a serious challenge for silverware this season, and sees no reason to rock the boat with further additions.

OPINION

This seems like it is probably the right decision for Liverpool at this moment in time. There’s no real reason for the club to go out and spend £85million on an attacker when they already have one of the most fearsome frontlines in world football. Dembele, while a tremendously talented player, is simply not needed at Anfield at the moment and so it’s best to leave him alone at this stage. If Klopp feels that he already has the squad he wants then there’s no reason for the club to spend any money in January. The Reds invested heavily in the summer transfer window so in some ways it would be alarming for the manager to demand further upgrades mere months later. Perhaps in the coming years a Liverpool move for Dembele might make sense, but right now it’s just not the right time for him to move to Merseyside.
