Liverpool attacker Dominic Solanke is set to join Rangers on loan once the January transfer window opens, according to talkSPORT.

The broadcaster claims that Steven Gerrard’s side are in pole position to bring in the 21-year-old, who is yet to make a first team appearance this season.

Premier League side Crystal Palace are said to also be interested in Solanke, but it appears that the Scottish giants have won the race for the former Chelsea man.

The London Evening Standard reported that Gers were one of several teams to fail with a move for the youngster in the summer, but Gerrard has now seemingly got his man.

OPINION

It’s about time that Solanke got a move away from Anfield. Clearly he is not a big part of manager Jurgen Klopp’s plans at present, meaning that a temporary move away from Merseyside is best for all involved. Solanke can gain nothing more from playing with the U-23’s – he needs first team football. Rangers can offer him that, as well as having enough competition up front that he won’t be relied upon as the sole source of goals. Alfredo Morelos and Kyle Lafferty are both already at Ibrox and will be expected to shoulder the attacking burden moving forward, so Solanke won’t have too much pressure on him straight away. Gerrard obviously knows Solanke a little bit and he will be keen to unlock the 21-year-old’s undoubted potential. This seems like a move which would work for all parties, Solanke most of all. If he can have a prolific spell on loan at Rangers then it will do wonders for his Reds career once he returns.
