Liverpool have opened talks with Brescia over a deal for 18-year-old midfield sensation Sandro Tonali, according to journalist Nicolo Schira

Schira, who writes for the Gazzetta dello Sport, reported on his personal Twitter account on Monday that the Reds had begun discussions with the Serie B club regarding the young star.

It is said that a Liverpool scout watched him in action as he scored for Brescia in a 4-4 draw against Spezia, with club owner Massimo Cellino demanding £30million for his prize asset.

Roma, Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan are all reported to be in the hunt.

OPINION

Tonali is one of Europe’s most-talented young players, with the 18-year-old becoming the first player in many years to be called up to the Italy squad while playing in the second division. Tonali did not end up appearing for Roberto Mancini’s side after that call-up, but he will no doubt win his first cap very soon. His form for Brescia has attracted the attention of some of Italy and Europe’s top clubs, and a move to a big team surely beckons in the summer. Liverpool are obviously hoping that he chooses to continue his development at Anfield, and the Reds do stand a good chance after opening talks for the midfielder. However, you would think that a move to one of Italy’s top teams may be more likely at this point in his career. It would be a bold step to move to the Premier League at his age, but nothing can be ruled out at the moment.
