Whilst debating the title race between Manchester City and Liverpool Robbie Savage made a funny comparison to Strictly Come Dancing.

Mark Chapman and Savage exchanged opinions regarding the two sides’ managers, whist on BBC Radio 5 Live about the criticism that Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola will receive if they fail to win the Premier League title.

“That criticism won’t come from either sets of fans, because when you are a fan, you don’t expect to win trophies, you expect to be entertained and taken on a ride in the journey,” said Chapman (BBC Radio 5 Live 24th April 19:32).

“That’s what both of those managers have done with those clubs.”

Savage then cheekily responded, saying: “Like I was on Strictly, riding the journey Chappers.”

OPINION

Of course, whichever manager out of the two fails to win the Premier League, they will be undoubtedly slated by football fans around the globe. However, this is down to the amount of competition still left in the title race at this stage of the season. At this point, both managers are so close to winning the league, that whichever fails to do so will seem like they’ve failed, even though both Manchester City and Liverpool are both more than likely going to finish above the 90 point mark. Mark Chapman’s description of fan expectation also offers a great point, in that at the beginning of the Premier League season, fans don’t necessarily expect to win every competition they take part in, but they expect to be taken on a journey throughout the 38 league games, which is most definitely the case for these two sets of fans, after a truly encapsulating Premier League campaign.
