Former England international Gary Lineker has sent his congratulations to Liverpool duo Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah after they secured the Premier League Golden Boot on Sunday.

The Reds double act ended up splitting the accolade with Arsenal frontman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, as they each ended up with 22 goals this season.

Lineker had warm words for all three: “Congratulations to @MoSalah @Aubameyang7 & @10SadioMane on winning the Golden Boot,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.

“3 wonderful African players each scoring 22 goals. Hope they get one each.”

OPINION

Lineker is right, all three players deserve credit for a phenomenal season of goalscoring. They are all wonderful players, as Lineker, says, and each man deserves to be recognised for how lethal they have been in front of goal in the Premier League this campaign. As Lineker points out, this result is a triumph for the continent of Africa and a real feather in their cap. Salah has represented Egypt phenomenally once again, as have Mane with Senegal and Aubameyang with Gabon. Every single one of them have been superb, but Mane and Aubameyang really pulled it out of the bag on the final day with a brace apiece. Salah, on the other hand, was off the pace against Wolverhampton Wanderers and appeared to be snatching at his chances on Sunday. Still, though, for a man who was said to have been having a down season, he’s not done half bad, has he?
