Liverpool are in pursuit of Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir, according to Turkish website Ajansspor.com.

The outlet report that the Turkish keeper is also wanted by Bundesliga side Schalke, meaning that Liverpool could face competition in their hunt to sign the 23-year-old.

Cakir has made 18 appearances in the Turkish top flight this season with Trabzonspor.

OPINION

It will be interesting to see what happens with the situation of Mignolet this summer, with the Belgian now firmly behind Alisson in Jurgen Klopp’s starting line-up. If the 31-year-old does leave Anfield this summer then that would leave a potential gap in Liverpool’s squad, meaning that Klopp will need to search the market for a new back up goalkeeper to Alisson. This reported interest in Cakir seems like a potentially good option for the Reds if they need to replace Mignolet, with the 23-year-old unlikely to be demanding of being a regular first team starter straight away at Liverpool, meaning he could be a useful addition to have as back up to Alisson for next season. Liverpool may need to act fast to sign the Turkish goalkeeper, with suggested interest from Schalke, but the lure of playing Premier League football under Klopp could be too much for Cakir to turn down in the early stages of his career, Anfield would be a very good place for him to develop and he would be learning from one of the best keepers in the world at the moment in Alisson.
