Brighton keeper Mathew Ryan has expressed his desire to write his name into Premier League history by stopping Manchester City from winning the title in a bid to help Liverpool win their first top flight championship in 29 years.

Liverpool host Wolves on Sunday knowing that if they better Manchester City’s outcome at Brighton, the title will be lifted at Anfield.

Australian, Ryan spoke about how he hopes to disturb the party, mainly due to the fact he has many friends who support Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Speaking to the Mirror, the 27-year-old said: “I remember the hype around that City and QPR game those years ago and how the whole world was invested in it. It’s nice to be part of that. If we can disturb the party, it would be nice.”

The Brighton mainstay went on to add: “I keep imagining and hoping in that situation, if it comes up again, to make that big last-ditch save to affect the result. If you can do that, in similar circumstances, that would be a memory I would cherish for the rest of my life.”

Ryan has been a major factor in his side beating the drop this season making 33 appearances and keeping six clean sheets under Chris Houghton.

OPINION

This has been the closest title race since Manchester City beat their rivals Manchester United to the throne with Sergio Aguero’s last ditch winner against Queens Park Rangers. If Mat Ryan could help Liverpool by keeping out City on the final day then he would most likely be remembered a hero at Anfield without ever playing a game for the Red’s. Before any of that comes in to play, Liverpool must take care of business against Wolves which will not be an easy game, with the away side already beating them once this year. No matter what happens it has been an incredible year for Jurgen Klopp and his side who have reached a consecutive Champions League final and have the possibility of only losing one game in the entire Premier League campaign. Having said that, the thought of what could have been will stick in their heads all summer and the thought of how they didn’t win the season after such an incredible run. There is still one game to play and if anything has been learnt throughout the years, it is that anything can happen in the Premier League and Brighton could well pull off a major shock to the enjoyment of  everyone involved at Liverpool.
