OPINION

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet certainly didn’t produce the finest performance of his career in his team’s 2-2 draw with Portuguese heavyweights Sporting Lisbon on Thursday morning. The match was typical Mignolet, really, as the Belgian produced moments of real quality, made some phenomenal saves, interchanged with an absolute howler for the first Sporting goal. Bruno Fernandes is a top drawer player who has really come onto the scene in the last couple of years, but there’s no way he should have scored against the Reds, here. It was a strange, looping drive from the Portugal international, but it didn’t have that much power and it was straight at the 31-year-old. However, the Reds ‘keeper somehow proceeded to let the ball squirm between his gloves, and then through his legs and into the back of the net. It was an absolute howler, and the Liverpool fans clearly weren’t happy with him.
