West Ham attacker Robert Snodgrass raved about Manchester City and Liverpool when being asked about the Premier League season getting underway.

Ally McCoist jokingly asked the Hammers attacker about his side’s tough start, they’re set to face Man City on Saturday, and he proceeded to rave about Pep Guardiola’s side and Liverpool.

Snodgrass insisted that other Premier League teams had to play to their maximum level against the Reds in order to have a chance, and claimed that if you make one wrong move, you get punished.

The Hammers winger also said that playing Liverpool and Man City gave him that old Man United feeling, likely referring to when the Red Devils constantly seemed to cruise to the league title.

“No to be fair, I think them (Man City) and Liverpool are when you were obviously playing against them last season, it like when the Premier League first started, that old Man United feel that you turn up, just feeling you’ll do well to get a result,” said Snodgrass on talkSPORT (9:40am, Thursday, August 8th).

“That’s how good I think they are, it’s like a game of chess with them, one wrong move and phwoar, that’s how good they are, and I just feel as if everyone has to be at their maximum against these teams.”

Snodgrass referring to the United of old when talking about Jurgen Klopp’s current sides will surely give many Liverpool fans chills.

While United are Liverpool’s fierce rivals, for them to be compared to Man United’s past glory days it’s very high praise indeed.

Under Sir Alex Ferguson, Man United won the Premier League title in 1994, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2013. (Source: Manchester United’s website)

For Snodgrass to compare playing against Liverpool and Man City as feeling like facing the United of old, then it’s effectively his way of saying how superior they are to other teams in the division.

Liverpool haven’t gone crazy in the summer transfer market, only signing Adrian, Harvey Elliott and Sepp van den Berg, and so it’s very telling of how good they were last season that Snodgrass appears to still be dreading facing them this season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side finished their 2018/19 Premier League campaign in second with 97 points and only lost one game, so no wonder Snodgrass doesn’t fancy West Ham’s chances against them, regardless of how much they’ve strengthened in the transfer market.
