Alan Shearer has named Trent Alexander-Arnold in his Premier League team of the week.

The Liverpool defender opened the scoring in his side’s 2-1 win over Chelsea on Sunday afternoon with a rasping drive from a well-worked set-piece routine.

That result meant that the Reds maintained their 100% record in the Premier League so far this season, and extended their run of consecutive victories to 15 in total.

Shearer shared his team of the week via the Premier League’s official Twitter account.

OPINION

Alexander-Arnold was fantastic against Chelsea on Sunday, and his goal was the icing on the cake. The pace, power, and swerve that he managed to apply to his strike made it truly unstoppable. Sometimes when you watch the young defender it is easy to forget that he is still only 20 years old. So far this season, he has been superb. As well as his goal yesterday, he already has two assists so far this season, and has averaged 3.8 key passes per game, as per Whoscored. By comparison, Mo Salah has made just two per game, as per Whoscored. If he continues on his current trajectory, this could be a very productive year for the full-back, and he could cement himself as one of the best players in his position in the world.
