Darren Bent has claimed that Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli is capable of walking into Liverpool’s first team when on top form.

The Sky Sports pundit admitted he believes that the England international would benefit the Reds’ massively if he was in their side, and could be the answer to the question of where the goals come from in midfield.

Bent shared that if the attacking midfielder could rediscover the form which saw him consistently involved in goals, he would easily step into the Jurgen Klopp’s team at Anfield.

“On his day, when at his best Dele Alli is capable of walking straight into Liverpool’s team,” Bent told Football Insider.

“The Dele Alli who was scoring goals and getting assists consistently is more than capable of being a player who’d benefit their team.”

Alli has featured six times for Spurs this season and recently scored the equaliser in the 1-1 draw against Watford in the Premier League.

OPINION

Bent may be correct with what he is saying, but the truth is, it has been way too long since Alli has been at his best for Tottenham. You probably have to go back more than a couple of seasons to see the 23-year-old at the top of his game, and that isn’t good enough. The answer to adding more goals to a midfield that is questioned is definitely not an attacking midfielder that has only scored a single goal so far this season. Georginio Wijnaldum isn’t as attacking as the English star and has scored the same amount of goals in the Premier League, so it is hard to see any way into the side at Anfield for Alli. For the Spurs man to even be on the Liverpool bench, he would need to start doing so much more for his side, instead of gliding through games by making little impact in the final third. Klopp will be more than happy with the options he has at Anfield, and Bent may be forced to reconsider his opinion should Alli perform poorly once again in Sunday’s crunch clash.
