Liverpool are in a heated transfer battle for Wolverhampton Wanderers’ versatile starlet Owen Otasowie, according to the Metro.

The newspaper claims that the Reds are tacking the progress of the 18-year-old midfielder, who can also operate in defence, after a string of impressive performance for Wolves’ Under-23s.

The teenager is out of contract at Molineux at the end of the season, which has led to Jurgen Klopp’s team being joined by Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Schalke in coveting the player.

However, Wolves are keen to keep Otasowie around and will attempt to tie him down to a new deal and convince him that he will get regular football with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

OPINION

It seems that Liverpool are linked with every single good young player going at the moment. This is the sort of signing they love doing, to be fair. This is how they got Dominic Solanke from Chelsea and Harvey Elliott from Fulham last summer, so they have prior history with this sort of thing. Otasowie’s situation is a difficult one to judge in terms of how it’s going to end up. Wolves clearly want to keep him, for obvious reasons, so there’s the very real chance that he could stay there and sign a new contract. However, if he is made aware of the level of interest in his services – as he no doubt will be – then he may well decide he wants to chance his arm at a massive club like Liverpool, Arsenal or PSG, or perhaps do the trendy thing and head off to Germany with David Wagner’s Schalke. Who wouldn’t want to join Liverpool at this moment in time? That’s the big question. But things are never that straightforward, and so Otasowie could decide on something completely different than a switch to Anfield.
